There is considerable time left in the start of the season but there are a lot of news coming through. So, just like last time we had a single thread about F1 2006 season I am starting this thread for the 2007 Season. This will allow all of us to discuss things at one place.

My request to all the F1 fans, please post F1 2007 related stuff here.

Yeah I saw the Italian Mustang it looks superb.. (Y)

I was saying that when the season will kick off it will be really hard for us to keep track of the cars. I mean so many changes have occurred. Ferrari's wont be hard to spot though... No.1 and No.2...

    Another changeable day at Vallelunga

After limited running on Wednesday, Ferrari had hoped for clear skies at Vallelunga today in what is the third day of testing for the team at the 4.085 km circuit.

Conditions were however changeable once again with Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa unable to get in much dry running. The day started dry before rain began to fall mid-day.

Raikkonen, still in the older 248 F1 chassis and Massa, in the new F2007 were therefore not able to complete the planned programme.

Massa did however manage 86 laps with a best of 1:13.
029s while Raikkonen completed 43 laps with a best of 1:13.587s.

The team has extended the test into Friday and both drivers will be back in action.

    Big shunt for Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton was uninjured after a big accident in testing today in Valencia. The British driver, at the wheel of new MP4-22, was unable to complete further running after the crash.

The BBC reports that the new car is so badly damaged that repairs are not possible in Valencia and that it is not clear if the cause was a mechanical failure or driver error.

In cool and overcast conditions, Fernando Alonso completed 76 laps of the 4.005km circuit with a best time of 1:11.698s while Hamilton completed 33 laps with a best of 1:12.596s.

Hamilton is therefore forced to sit out the Friday testing programme.

    Valencia - 25/01/07
    F. Alonso - McLaren Mercedes – 1:11.698 - 76 laps
    L. Hamilton - McLaren Mercedes – 1:12.596 - 33 laps

    Briatore mocks lavish McLaren launch

Flavio Briatore took a dig at his fiercest Formula One adversary on Wednesday as Renault launched its 2007 car with a modest event in Holland.

The revelation of the R27, which was delivered to the stage on an elevated platform suspended by wire, contrasted starkly to McLaren's reportedly multi-million dollar affair recently in Valencia.

Briatore is traditionally outspoken about Ron Dennis' extravagant motorhome and award winning factory, and said: "I didn't spend millions and millions on this launch."

"Unlike some other people, I prefer to invest all of our money in the car.
    "

Briatore, however, said he is not bitter about protégé and back to back world champion Fernando Alonso's switch to McLaren, insisting that if a Renault cannot win in 2007, "I would prefer that it is Fernando (in front)".

"I still have a good relationship with him and we have respect for each other, but I do not believe that Fernando is going to make McLaren any more likeable," Briatore said.

Low-key launch for new Red Bull

In the lowest-key 'launch' so far this winter, Red Bull on Friday unveiled the Adrian Newey-penned RB3 on a crisp morning at Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.

Without the fireworks of McLaren's event or even an auditorium within sight, mechanics for the Milton-Keynes based squad simply rolled the curvy car into the Barcelona pit lane shortly before 9am for photographers to snap.

With a lower and thinner nose and distinctly McLaren-esque curvy side pods, the car was later taken onto the circuit by Mark Webber, who has joined Red Bull from Williams to be veteran David Coulthard's new team-mate.

Also present at the launch were Newey and team boss Christian Horner, both wearing heavy winter jackets, and Renault's Rob White, representing the team's new engine partner.

Honda unveil the RA107 in Spain

Honda’s 2007 car was officially launched at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya on Thursday morning. With it the team hope to build on the success that brought them victory in last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix and fourth place in constructors’ championship.

The RA107, the first car to be built by the Honda team since their new, full-scale wind tunnel became operational, will again be raced by Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. Supporting them will be test drivers Christian Klien and James Rossiter.

Barrichello had the honour of completing the car’s maiden shakedown run at the circuit on Wednesday, while Button will get his chance to sample it later today.

“We had an encouraging first day of running with the new RA107 here in Barcelona yesterday and my first impressions were good ones,” said Barrichello. “I am impressed by how the car and the team have evolved during my first year here and it is clear that the RA107 is a step in the right direction.

“The RA107’s new steering and suspension geometry is better suited to the new Bridgestone Potenza tyres, giving a good balance. The revised traction control system also makes it possible for us to get closer to maximising the potential of the tyres.”

Designing the new car began at the start of last season and combined the efforts of Honda’s UK staff in Brackley and Bracknell and those of their Japanese colleagues in Tochigi. Emphasis was placed on improving aerodynamic efficiency, leading to some innovative packaging solutions to allow for much tighter bodywork, particularly around the car’s exhausts and radiators.

“We are proud to present the product of a year’s excellent co-operation between Honda facilities in the UK and Japan,” commented Nick Fry, the team’s CEO. “Although the different engineering groups have worked closely for several years, the RA107 is a true international team effort involving hour by hour communication, strong team work and great team spirit across the globe.

“This year we aim to build on the latter part of the 2006 season and successful pre-Christmas testing, during which we completed more testing than any other team. We intend to benefit from continuity of drivers and key personnel, combined with performance improvement designed into the new RA107 using our full-scale wind tunnel which was completed last season, to move closer to realising our world championship ambitions.”

The new car was unveiled in Honda’s now traditional black testing colours. Its official 2007 race livery will be revealed at a separate event next month.

    Button upbeat following first tests

The Honda Racing F1 Team completed the first week of running with its 2007 car, the RA107, at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona today. Following a shakedown at Silverstone on Monday and an initial successful day of running in Barcelona on Wednesday, the new challenger ran for the first time in the public eye on late Thursday morning, following a press conference with the team's management and drivers.

The programme for the RA107 this week was to give the car its first run out on the track and ensure that all the basic systems were functioning well. In addition, various engine cooling evaluations were undertaken to prepare for the warmer events coming up at the Bahrain tests and the first flyaway races.

Rubens Barrichello drove the car for the first two days of the test, with Jenson Button taking over for the final day. Between them, the team's race drivers completed 178 laps, some 823 kms of running, putting valuable mileage on the new chassis.

The team also ran the RA106 car for three days before it reaches the end of its test programme in the next few weeks. With Jenson at the wheel on Wednesday and Christian Klien completing the programme on Thursday and Friday, the RA106 was used to evaluate new electronic controls settings and the Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

Jenson Button completed 158 laps over two days with a best lap of 1:21.60 while Rubens Barrichello racked up 92 laps over two days with a best of 1:23.030.
Christian Klien meanwhile completed two days of running in the older RA106 with a best time of 1:22.999.

    Jenson Button
"It's been a very productive day which was really about running through all the simple things with the car such as basic set-up changes and getting the balance to my liking. We achieved that pretty early on which is positive and it enabled us to cover a good number of laps. It's a long way to go until the first race and there is a lot to do and many improvements to be made. So for one day in the car, it was productive, but it is just the beginning."

    Rubens Barrichello
"It's been an exciting test for us this week and I'm glad to have had the chance to drive the new RA107 car. The whole team has done a great job and the car is already on the same pace as last year's car, despite not having all of its development parts yet. There is a lot of work to do to get us ready for the start of the season, but from my laps this week, I really enjoyed the feeling of the car and I am look forward to next week's test in Valencia to continue its development."

    Jacky Eeckelaert, Engineering Director
"The RA107 programme this week focused on the standard control runs that you have to undertake with any new car. We also checked the cooling and oil systems for both the engine and the gearbox to ensure that everything is working correctly.

"We had a small issue with the car on Thursday which stopped Jenson out on track. We quickly established that it merely a minor problem related to the rebuild of the car overnight following Rubens' laps on Wednesday. Rubens went on to complete a further 51 laps on Thursday afternoon with Jenson adding another 86 laps to the new chassis on Friday.

"The aero data collected from the RA107 this week shows a very good correlation with the model data from the wind tunnel so we are pleased with that. Now that the car has gone through all of its reliability checks, we will start work on set-up evaluation in Valencia next week."

Rain forces McLaren to sit it out

Due to the heavy rain in Valencia, McLaren Mercedes took the decision not to test today, as the team would not have been able to complete the scheduled development programme in the severe wet weather conditions.

With Lewis Hamilton having crashed heavily in the MP4-22 yesterday, it was just Fernando Alonso that would have tested today.

The team’s preparations for the 2007 season will continue next week at the Valencia track, with Hamilton and Pedro de la Rosa in attendance from Tuesday 30th January until Thursday 1st February.

Massa off as Ferrari conclude Vallelunga test

Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen were in action for a fourth day of testing on Friday, as Ferrari wrapped up an eventful session at Vallelunga. The poor weather, which has limited the team’s progress this week, was still very much in evidence - as Massa quickly discovered.

The Brazilian had completed just a few laps in the F2007 when he went off the damp track and hit a barrier. The resulting damage put paid to his morning session and only some quick repair work by the Ferrari mechanics saw him back out on track in the afternoon. Soon after, however, an unrelated technical problem ended his session. He managed just nine laps in total, with his quickest, a 1m 22.279s, almost 10 seconds off his best time from Thursday.

In comparison, Raikkonen enjoyed a much more productive day in the older 248 F1, as he continued to familiarise himself with his new team. The Finn completed 52 laps and, once the weather had improved in the afternoon, clocked a best time of 1m 19.758s.

Ferrari will move from Italy to Spain next week, when they resume testing at the Valencia circuit on January 30, with Raikkonen and test driver Luca Badoer in charge of driving duties.

They will be hoping for better weather there, although McLaren opted to cancel their planned session at the track on Friday due to heavy rain. Like Ferrari, they will return to the venue next week.

A troubled final day of testing for Massa

Today marked the fourth and final day of testing this week for Ferrari, working again at the Vallelunga circuit, north of Rome, with Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.

Although the rain finally moved on from the Roman circuit today, it had stayed for a long time in the morning, when Massa had only done a few laps, interrupted by an off-track excursion on the still damp track. "It's nothing serious," a Ferrari spokesman told AFP. "Repairing it will take time but because of the rain there's no rush..."

After completing an installation lap this morning, Raikkonen was back behind the wheel at one to continue with his familiarisation process with the car.

In the afternoon, with the F2007 repaired, Massa resumed development work on the new car, but a technical problem caused a further and final interruption to the session for the Brazilian driver.

Massa would complete just nine laps with a best of 1:22.279s while Raikkonen put in 52 with a best of 1:19.758s.

The team resume tests in Valencia next Tuesday with Raikkonen and test driver Luca Badoer.

Ferrari sponsor has back-up for Marlboro ploy

Ferrari sponsor Philip Morris has developed a contingency plan should its new 'subliminal' branding on the 2007 Ferrari be deemed illegal, according to reports.

The publication Sports Marketing Bulletin claims that Altria Group, Philip Morris' New York-based parent company, could revert to advertising one of its food brands such as 'Kraft' should the new Marlboro tactic for F1 backfire.

While rival cigarette labels including Mild Seven and Lucky Strike have now bowed to advertising restrictions, Philip Morris recently extended its exclusive Ferrari deal until 2011.

Philip Morris 'owns' nearly all of the Ferrari livery and sub-contracts to other sponsors including Shell and Alice, now filling the spare space not with prohibited 'Marlboro' logos but strategic patterned use of the colours red, black and white.

Among Altria's other non-tobacco brands are Maxwell House coffee, Oreo cookies and the orange beverage 'Tang'.

divwidth: 100%; background-color: #cc3300""Britain's boy racer escapes from wreckage of 185mph test crash.
Lewis Hamilton, Britain’s new Formula One star, walked away unscathed after crashing his multimillion-pound car at almost 200mph on a test circuit in Valencia yesterday.

On a day of pain in Spain for the nation’s most daring drivers, Jenson Button had earlier sat helplessly as his new Honda broke down during the first lap of a warm-up session in Barcelona.

Hamilton, presented alongside Fernando Alonso, the world champion, as one of McLaren Mercedes’ two race drivers for this season at a launch ceremony only last week, was said to be travelling at speeds of up to 185mph when he lost control of his car.

According to reports from the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, where the team were conducting a closed test session, Hamilton was travelling down the pit straight into the first corner when his car, the silver and red MP4-22, went into a spin and careered off the track backwards through a gravel trap before crashing into a tyre wall.

The 22-year-old from Tewin Wood in Hertfordshire, who will become the first black driver in Formula One when he takes his place on the starting grid at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in mid-March, said that he was unhurt.

In a brief statement, he said: “Unfortunately with this sport these things happen. I am completely fine and was conscious throughout. I am now looking forward to getting back to testing next week.”

His car, however, in which McLaren have invested up to £50 million in development and research over the past nine months and will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds to repair, was described by the team as “badly damaged”. It was loaded on to a truck and returned to the pits.

The team said that the car could not be repaired in Valencia and Hamilton’s test session — his first since the launch — has been suspended. Hamilton had completed 33 laps until that point after a full day at the circuit on Wednesday when his fastest lap time was seven-tenths of a second slower than Alonso, who completed his own session yesterday without incident.

News on the cause of the crash is sketchy — whether there was a failure in the complex car-management system on the MP4-22, the brakes or the suspension, or whether Hamilton had misjudged his approach into the corner and lost the back end as he attempted to slow.

Whatever, the accident is a huge setback for Hamilton and McLaren, who are thought to have only two models of their new car available to their top two drivers at present as they continue their intensive testing and development programme in the build-up to Melbourne. The team are due to complete another three-day test in Valencia next week.

Hamilton, who had given warning that this will be a learning year for him, is a self-assured young man and it would be surprising if his confidence was affected by this incident. He said recently that he hopes to gain as much knowledge as possible from Alonso and predicted that he and the Spanish double world champion could be a lot closer to each other in performance by Melbourne than some sceptics in the paddock have supposed.

The drama in Valencia came as the previous occupant of the “great young hope” category in British Formula One history, Jenson Button, presented his new Honda for the forthcoming season at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. The 27-year-old is setting out on his eighth season in Formula One and has learnt to play down expectations, but still believes that he can be in the running for his first championship this year.

In what he and his team will hope to prove a misleading portent, his Honda RA 107 made an inauspicious start to its second day of testing, breaking down after Button had travelled only three corners into his first lap. The car, which had a fault in its gearbox, was quickly repaired and Button was able to complete a full day’s work.
