Firstly nice deal, secondly its good to see someone say "not interested in bodyparts, but performance parts preferred" lol..
On Na without blowing the budget too much (correct me if I'm wrong, not familiar with prices here).
I'd replace all engine fluids with better spec oils (complete flush, brakes, power, engine, gear).. Put in Iridium spark plugs, take that hideous pathetic air intake out and make a proper stainless steel one as in this pic below (my old 1.8 Corolla in Brisbane) where the filter is placed in the bumper front end to serve as an enclosure..

Put in front and rear strut braces (if possible sway bars too, to firm it up with those wheels it has). See if you can find some place which offers software or chips to allow variations in the gear change ratios, seeing as its an auto.
Get a Vtec Controller to be able to control the vtec kick in times (obviously lol) .. I'm not aware of the size of a stock exhaust pipe on the Civic, but I'd suggest get a set of extractors or headers and attach a 2" pipe catback straight to a 2.5" tip muffler for better flow..
more info ? google.com is your friend hopefully the stuff above will give your friend some ideas.
Remember as much fun as it is to speed, its about the handling and brakes that makes it complete.
