    Default - A1GP - Season 07/08 -

Last year I started a thread about A1 Grand Prix 2007 Season, that didn't go too well, probably because of lack of interest or because of Pakistan's performance. But Adam Khan is driving for Pakistan this season and we may see some good results. Stay tuned and keep posting.

I respect your opinion @fia. But I think at that point in the race he had nothing to lose. He wouldn't have gained places had he allowed Germany to go through. I think, Adam needed to prove a point that he can race with the best which he did. I agree with you that he needs more time and he will mature with time. Lets hope he has a better car to prove himself sooner rather than later.

well adam had a point to prove which he did, he can race compatitively if given a good setup car. This will also give him idea of handling the pressure of defending places, which he will be doing soon inshAllah.

A1GP cars to be 'based on' Ferrari F2007

''A1GP will be taken very seriously'' - Teixeira
    16/10/07 09:39

The cars of the next A1GP series will reportedly be 'based on' the 2007 Ferrari that was this year raced in formula one by Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa.

It was announced last week that Ferrari will supply engines and design consultancy to the so-called World Cup of Motorsport for six years beginning next season.

A report of the news agency Reuters says the 2008-2009 A1 car is "expected to be based on this year's F2007 Formula One racer but built by another company."

Series boss Tony Teixeira, who has been linked with the possible buyout of Ferrari-powered F1 team Toro Rosso, suggests that the Ferrari deal is designed to bolster the series' status.

"If Ferrari can deliver a 650-700 horse power car that is a few seconds off F1 pace, then you will want to drive for your country because you know you are driving the best equipment available," he said.

"A1GP will be taken very seriously as a true global motor racing series.

"For A1, I think the credibility issue is totally resolved and put to rest. Ferrari would not do anything to jeopardise its brand," Teixeira added.

Its been long time since the last A1 race and still 18 days to go before the Malaysian race. Seriously a very very long gap.

Pakistan's driver - Adam Khan had engine problems during the practice sessions.

This is what he had to say -

“It was good to be back on a track familiar to me today, Sepang is a fantastic facility and it’s great to be racing on an F1 circuit. The conditions were very difficult inside the car, it was very hot and humid and I think the Feature race on Sunday will test a lot of drivers.

“We weren’t as quick as we’d hoped today. We’re working with a new engineer this weekend, so it’s taking a little time to get used to working together, but so far it’s going well and I feel we’re going to make a lot of progress over the weekend. There are a few sections of the circuit where I definitely feel I can make up time; there is definitely more time left in both the car and myself.”

“We seemed to be having a problem with the engine during the session, Adam was complaining of a lack of straight line speed which was confirmed later by the data. With the engine due to be replaced soon anyway, we will put a new engine in for final practice tomorrow, which should have a positive effect on the lap times.”

The qualifying was disappointing as he spun during one of the laps that mattered for the sprint race

“I’m very disappointed with how qualifying went, I’m not used to being that far back. I’m a little confused as to where the time is lacking, while the engine change did help us, it wasn’t enough to lift us up the time sheets. I missed the first run because I spun, which meant I wasn’t able to get a good feel for the circuit, so I had to be a little too cautious on my second flying lap. That upset our whole qualifying programme, as I was also on new tyres at the time, and obviously was unable to take advantage of the new rubber.

“Racing is a completely different game to qualifying, so there is still a lot to play for, but unfortunately I have qualified at the back and it will be hard from there. I’ll try and make the most of it tomorrow. The main thing is to never give up; we will work as hard as possible overnight to see where the problem lies and I will be trying my hardest tomorrow to get a good result for Pakistan.”

Team Director has this to say

We changed the engine yesterday as having looked at the data it was clearly lacking straight line speed. That improved our time by half a second, but we still a bit off the pace. We’re going to take some time to go through the data, look at a couple of changes, reviewing the data with Adam and helping him to improve his pace.

“The Sprint race is very short so there will be little opportunity to make up places, but the Feature race is longer and with a good pit stop strategy, hopefully we will be able to make up a number of positions.”
