    and now
i think alonso is gonna regret his decision if renault fail to produce a competitive car this year because..

    in 2008 Ferrari champ
    they will sign Kimi again
Mass have a deal in his pocket..
no place for alonso (cry baby)..

    in 2008 Mclaren
they have a rookie who kicked A** of a double champ
and they wont want Alonso back again as he had problems there with all...

    Comments...

Jokes apart, honestly, I don't think a driver of Alonso's class will ever have problems finding places in top teams. He is not some David Coulthard, Barichello or Villeneuve. He is a cry baby indeed but that doesn't mean he'll be out of job. He finished second this season and it was due to his own mistakes. If he can find himself in a team that supports their drivers the way Ferrari and Renault have, he will be back to winning ways.

@comtrack, mclaren is always my team...i backed hakkinen..then kimi ..then alonso..now it will be either kovi or someone else but not hami...im not a v.big hami fan! but haan i still feel alonso is arguably the best f1 driver ive seen..for me he surpasses the class of hakki n schumi...then again thats my opinion.., i knoe the masses here at this forum wont agree but then again thats the oppositions job!

Race car driver turns taxi driver to catch flight

BERLIN (Reuters) - Michael Schumacher can add the unofficial title of Germany's fastest taxi driver to his other achievements after taking over behind the wheel to get his family to the airport on time.

The retired Formula One champion drove the cab back to the airport himself after a trip out to the village of Gehuelz, near Coburg in southern Germany, left the family short of time to make their flight home, the Muenchner Abendzeitung newspaper reported.

Singapore night race set for 8pm start
New venue set to make Formula One history
The first ever floodlit F1 night race will begin at 8pm local time in Singapore late next September, organisers of the fledgling event have confirmed.

A source who lives on the island nation explained that it is completely dark at 8pm in September.

Heidfeld favours the return of slicks
    Overtaking could be easier
In 1998, Formula One switched from slicks to grooved tyres. Almost ten years later, discussion regarding the reintroduction of slick tyres is on the agenda.

During the tests held last week at Jerez, Bridgestone provided the teams with slicks for testing purposes. A return to this tyre spec seems to be within the realms of possibility for 2009.

    Coulthard criticises tyre blanket ban

''I think it is a ludicrous idea to ban them''
Formula one veteran David Coulthard has criticised the decision to ban tyre-warming blankets from 2009.

The Red Bull racer expressed his concern after the recent Jerez tests, where the blanket ban along with slick tyres and reduced downforce - all part of the 2009 regulations package - were tried together for the first time.

I guess renault got lucky with the FIA ruling and then further with alonso returning to them... Considering the season that Renault had, what with all the car troubles, I wonder how Alonso would have faired had he not left for mclaren. Probably not all that great. If Renault can manage a car that resembles in performance to their '05 or '06 car then '08 is going to be one for the books... a three way race to the end can be expected with mclaren, renault and ferrari going for the glory.

Ralph Schumi... I think it was a matter of time... the guy was languishing in dormant misery... I hope he doesnt exit out of racing altogether (not that it makes any difference to me)... it would be sad to see a guy leave so quietly after so much was expected of him.

Over all I have a feeling that Alonso and Hamilton will now truly have to prove their worth... hamilton more than alonso... Alonso is returning to the team he won two championships with... the team hasnt had a good season since he left... the pressure will be on both the team engineers and him... and how many of those prized engineers and designers must have left once the champion took his leave in '07 only briatore knows...
Hamilton had a world champion breathing down his neck last season and they were both on the same team... that must have played a major factor in his performance... he admitted as much on top gear...

I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires...

If you look at what Renault achieved in the years that Alonso drove for them and remove his achievements from them you will find that Renault won 2 grand Prix in that period and a few podiums. Going by that Renault didnt have a very bad season in 2007. They didnt luck into a win with Fisichella like they had in 05 and 06. Sure they did not have the same information that Mclaren enjoyed, and that made Mclaren adopt quickly to the Bridgestone tyres.
I for one dont like to compare drivers, and this is in not in any way a comparison but when Schumacher left in `95 what was Benetton at that time after having won back to back championships with them that team had a miserable `96 and equally bad `97 though alot of people had thought Berger in that team would be one of the guys to fight for the world title. The point I am trying to make is that some teams/drivers gel together and some dont. The Renault suited Alonso`s style of driving like the Benetton suited Schumacher, and though Alesi and Berger were pretty competent drivers, I think between the two of them they managed one win in their time at Benetton. I dont know what to expect from Renault for 2008 but with Alonso onboard they just might surprise a few people especially in the second half of the season.

His contract is rumoured to be around 70 Million Pounds for 3 years with a get out clause after his first year but all that is conjecture.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

The BBC is reporting that the renault deal is rumoured to be valued at 25.2 million pounds... that is some serious coin...

    Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7136498.stm

    @UncleKraker

I agree with most of what you said there regarding the drivers and their teams... but with regards to schumi leaving benetton... if I remember correctly (and I say this with caution because I don't remember those seasons very well... just the stuff that my brothers used to ramble on about) when schumi left benetton he took with him designers and engineers... Ross brawn being one of them... with the missing brain power they did go down... again I am simply recalling what I remember when schumi moved it could be wrong...

and i completely agree with your analysis on the achievements of renault in '07 sans alonso and in '05 and '06 with him... also the little below the belt action on Mclaren made me laugh...

    FIA to close McLaren investigation
Espionage scandal finally coming to a conclusion

McLaren set for the green light for the 2008 season
This afternoon the McLaren Mercedes team apologised to the FIA, World Motor Sport Council - amongst others - for its role in the industrial espionage scandal that rocked the series this year.

This evening, the FIA took a conciliatory tone in that a line can now be drawn underneath the whole 'spy' saga and that McLaren can start its 2008 campaign afresh.

Bro, what ever you seem to recall is mostly correct. Only one thing that Ross Brawn and Rorey Byrne both stayed at Benetton for 1996, the year Schumacher joined Ferrari, and they joined him for 1997. Benetton had the services of Brawn, Byrne and Pat Symonds for that one year minus Schumacher but nothing came off it.

    @comtrak

Man he lost the world championship! I dont think they are small/stupid mistakes when they cost you the world driver`s title.
