    Lets see where the awards go. Kimi's achievement wasn't small by any means. He switched teams, had initial problems during the season with tyres etc. and his comeback mid season championship winning charge was phenomenal. Plus, the guy is super cool and harmless

    exactly but kimmi has been totally ignored he is the world champion hasnt gotten the respect which he deserves even still treating hamilton as the champ and the new post story was pathetic that hamilton will match infact better schumis record , it will be a great achievement if he can but dont compare a rookie a new comer with arguably the best driver ever a 7 times world champ

    Exactly, if he does match Schumacher than he will get all the respect I have, but comparing him to Schumi just now, only makes me laugh. I didn't even react to that news.

    They even compared Alonso to Schumacher, and now it looks that every other GP winner will be the next Schumacher.

    Alonso is a good driver indeed, better than Hamilton and the latter needs to beat the current drivers first before thinking of dethroning Schumacher. Alonso is two-nill up on him and Raikkonen will be this year.

    With all due respect to the mclaren fans but majority of the hype for hamilton is simply because the guy is a brit... how often does that island get a sports personality who is actually good? They had henman... well lets just say he retired out of embarrassment probably because he knew he would never win a grand slam... yeah they had nigel mansel and I guess they are due to have one guy who would be good once in a while... they had button thus far and frankly i dont see the guy winning a competitive race let alone the championship... so i think the hamilton juggernaut has more to do with his nationality than his raw tallent and achievements thus far... becides he'll only be able to rival schumi if his car permits it..................

    @sub7er
    Bro, the question is not if Federer will surpass the great Pete Sampras`record of 14 grand slam titles but by how much? Pete indeed was a great champion , and more than that it was the way he conducted himself on court which earned him respect from everyone much like Roger Federer commands these days.

    I know this is an F1 related thread and I am with you about starting a new thread about the awards. So like you I ask, NightSurfer, our go to guy for making new threads :-)

    As for the awards I think Michael Phelps is the real dark horse.

    Lastly A little about Federer from those who know a thing or two about tennis for your eyes only , sub7er

    FIA confirms night GP schedule

    The FIA confirmed on Wednesday that practice and qualifying for the first Singapore Grand Prix will also take place at night this year.

    Singapore will host the sport's first night race in September, in a move aimed at increasing viewing figures in Europe, where the race will take place at 1pm CET.

    Analysis: Brawn takes magic to Honda

    Rubens Barrichello, the most experienced driver in Formula One with 15 seasons under his belt, shudders when he recalls last year's Japanese Grand Prix.

    With the rain lashing down at Fuji, the Brazilian's race engineer told him over the radio to come into the pits. But in the background, the Honda driver could hear other voices shouting: 'No, no, no'

    @unclekracker...nice bit of diggin!...yeahh i agree but i feel the major reason for federer success is mainly due to lower standard of competition as compared to the one during the era of pistol pete!

    yaaa phelp has got a lot of unexpected support for sure...umm although i ant a v.big fan of swimming but i have a question whose better ian thorpe or m.phelp..? i mean thorpedo is like a legend here in OZ..then there was also this other guy from netherland..van something..forgot the bloks name....soo whose the best outta them!

    @sub7er

    The dutch guy is Pieter van den Hoogenband. I personally prefer Ian Thorp, and that would be the case with most people where you are currently. Americans would tend to disagree of course.

    Before nightsurfer gets angry ( joking) and reminds us its an F1 ONLY thread I would request him again to start a seperate thread where we can discuss these things. I would have started one but I`m afraid i`m no where close to making anything as decent or attractive as he does.

    P: S Man why isnt your team, Mclaren nominated for some award? :-) I mean they did excel at ONE thing during 2007 didnt they ? Now please dont ask what that one thing was.

    @nightsurfer
    Hey man nice article! Couldn't agree more with you about what the sport means and what is required to excel in it at the very top level.
    Hope you dint mind me suggesting a thing or two that could or could have been added to your article. One thing i would have added on the driver side is the G forces which you touched upon but slightly more in detail for those who might not know how it actually feels when we say 5gs in a corner. That is 5 times the weight of your head on one side of your shoulder. The other thing is the weight loss in some of the races which are run in very hot and humid conditions where a driver might lose up to 5 lbs because of fluid loss. That kinda stuff.

    One the car, I would have given a little more detail about say the tires, the temp that is required for them to operate at the optimum, and the brakes. The entire suspension travel which is in millimeters. The fact that you can go from zero to hundred and back to zero in less than 5 seconds! You could add the famous video of either Michael Schumacher in his F1 car racing the 550 Maranello and a Fiat. Something similar was made by Mclaren last year with Alonso racing the DTM car and another Merc. That would would give those who are not fully aware of the ability of an F1 can a good idea about it`s performance.
    Hope you don`t mind me saying those things. A nicely written article all in all I must say. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the sports discussion thread :-)

    Red Bull try radical new aero solution

    Red Bull Racing caused a surprise on the first day of this week's test at Barcelona in Spain when they ran a radical engine cover fin on their new RB4.

    At the car's launch last month, Red Bull drew criticism that their new car was too similar to its predecessor. Only the car's new diffuser and attention to its reliability issues had been obvious developments

    Alonso says Renault a second behind

    Two-time champion Fernando Alonso reckons the Renault team are currently nearly a second behind rivals McLaren or Ferrari.

    "At the moment, we need to close the gap to the top teams, McLaren and Ferrari, because we are a little bit too far behind them," Alonso told reporters during the launch of the new Renault in Paris.

    Hamilton sets the pace at Barcelona

    Lewis Hamilton maintained McLaren's impressive pre-season testing form with the fastest time of this week's test at Barcelona in Spain on Friday - although expected title rivals Ferrari were notable absentees.

    The Briton, whose team moved to the bottom of the pitlane, ended the day a comfortable six tenths of a second ahead of former teammate Fernando Alonso, who began to show some of the potential of the new Renault R28 - despite stopping out on track near the end of the day to bring out a red flag.
