Thanks for posting the Ferrari diffuser video, and also posting my favourite car, the GT40

Here are some more details on the Ferrari.

Both Ferrari drivers will have a major upgrade this weekend, but Kimi Raikkonen will have a new chassis which is 10kg lighter than Felipe Massa’s to accomodate him and the KERS system. Raikkonen himself is 10kg heavier than Massa, he revealed today.

Ferrari’s biggest problem has been a lack of downforce compared to the opposition. “The car is handling well, the balance is good, there’s just not enough downforce,” said Raikkonen.

The new Ferrari has detailed aerodynamic changes everywhere. The sidepods are more rounded, there is a new engine cover with new exhaust exits as well as a new floor and a new double diffuser. The engineers have had a lot of redesigning to do at the back end of the car to reposition electronics and hydraulic systems to fit in the new diffuser.

The car is expected to feature modifications to the front and rear wings. Neither driver wanted to say what the expected gain is from this package, but it will need to be a minimum of half a second to get them closer to the front of the field. “I hope we can improve more than the others so we can step forward, ” said Massa. “We have good numbers, so I hope we improve very well.”
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

Yes another great Race Driver Gilles Villenevue and coincidingly like 94' 2 drivers died in 82' although in 2 different races and under different circumstances. Here is a famous quote from Gilles

I never think i can hurt myself -not seriously. If you believe it can happen to you, how can you do this job? If you are never over eight-tenths, or whatever because you're thinking about a shunt, you're not going as quick, as you can. And if you're doing that, you're not a racing driver. Some guys in Formula 1... well, to me they're not racing drivers. They drive racing cars that's all. They're doing a half job. And in that case I wonder why they do it at all.

    Rival drivers: F1 needs Ferrari

Nick Heidfeld has reminded the FIA of their obligation to the fans following president Max Mosley's shock attack on Ferrari.

After an exchange of letters last week with Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo in relation to the budget cap, Mosley later claimed Formula One could live without the sport's most iconic brand.

Politically motivated the remark may have been as there is a battle being waged between the FIA and the Formula One Teams' Association, of which di Montezemolo is chairman.

But as far as the drivers are concerned, after they were canvassed ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, the feeling is that without Ferrari, there is no Formula One.

BMW's Heidfeld was the most pointed, referencing the fact the FIA had only recently conducted a worldwide survey of a broad cross-section of the public as to how F1 could be more attractive.

"It was a bit strange hearing that (comment) from him (Mosley)," said Heidfeld.

"I thought people were looking and listening to the fans worldwide, and Ferrari is obviously the biggest name in F1 with many fans.

"They have been there since the very beginning, so for sure they belong in F1."

World Champion Lewis Hamilton admitted he "couldn't imagine it", whilst two-time Champion Fernando Alonso added: "No, impossible."

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, currently with Force India, pointed out that "Without Ferrari, I don't think it would be Formula One any more".

As for one of Ferrari's current stars, Felipe Massa, he admits to being thoroughly dismayed by the politics that surround the sport.

Shying away from Mosley's remark, Massa said: "For the moment there are so many political games around Formula One, I don't want to put myself in the middle.

"The only thing I can say is that it would be nice to have a better sport - less political and more sport.

"There are now more politics than there has ever been, and I'm not happy about that."

A good News FIA have dropped the winner takes all system for 2010.

There was quite a bit of chatter last week about the inclusion of the ‘winner takes all’ clause in the 2010 sporting regulations, whereby the driver who had the most wins would become world champion.

The FIA had tried in March to introduce it for the 2009 season, but needed the teams’ agreement, which wasn’t forthcoming. It was assumed by most people, including teams and by me, that the system would be introduced in 2010 instead. After the World Council Meeting on 29th April, the rules were published with the winner takes all system in place.

    Now it’s gone again.

Two days ago, May 6th, the sporting regulations for 2010 were published again, but with the original system back in place, instead of winner takes all, it says the following,

“The Formula One World Championship driver’s title will be awarded to the driver who has scored the highest number of points, taking into consideration all the results obtained during the Events which have actually taken place. “

In other words back to the way it has been in recent years.

It turns out that it was not something slipped in to the rules on April 29th, but there was simply a mistake made in the version published after the April 29th meeting. When the teams brought it to FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting’s attention it was quickly rectified in the version published on Wednesday.

There is so much else going on at the moment with the row over the budget cap, that it seems winner takes all will be taking a back seat for the time being.

Typical F1! A mistake, lol how can you make a mistake in such an important document about something like this. It wasn't a typo that one should overlook.

Sir, i think you have posted the same free practice one times for both sessions. As for today's free practice and the race, this is it for Ferrari, the amount of money they threw at developing these parts for this race, and the number of new parts they have, it's pretty much a B-spec car and now they should not only expect to have both cars in Q3, but also run reasonably higher. Whether they can get on the podium, i don't think so, and if they fail here and at the next two races then their season is over. They better start work on next year's car for Alonso The same goes for BMW, in fact it's actually worse in their case. They stopped work on their `08 car to concentrate on their `09 car, and this is what they have come up with!! So, if nothing silly happens nine out of ten places are pretty much sorted for Q3 already. The battle will be for the remaining one spot.

There is a 50% chance of rain btw.

Now here is a dilemma a lot of drivers would want to be in

In reference to an earlier post about how boring the Spanish GP usually is, here is another pointer to what lay in store for all unless something dramatic happens.

Circuit de Catalunya boasts of more winners from pole position than any other track in F1. From the total of 18 races held at the circuit, the pole sitter has won 14 times! Thank God for the IPL I say, if the form book is going to be repeated this weekend. Although it's pretty likely that a very lightly fueled Alonso, will start from pole this Sunday.

Sorry Sir, this is my mind boggling performance I think. This is really the last chance for both BMW and Ferrari. Both have done something stupid last season and now are paying their respected debts. BMW drop their chance of competing for the title and start developing this season's car while Ferrari goes down the wire for the title and have less time for developing this season's car.

Massa: Hopefully this isn't our last chance

Felipe Massa is fervently hoping Ferrari will not be standing in the last-chance saloon on Sunday.

A great qualifying once again although Button takes the pole but it was mostly dominated by RedBulls, a surprise performance by Ferrari. In both manners best and worst the best is there updates worked and worst they repeat Sepang again with the only difference of driver. Last time it was Massa this time Kimi.

Good to see Ferrari moving in the right direction finally.

What happened with Raikkonen. I missed most of the qualifying.

Waiting for FIA to publish the fuel loads, but from the disappointment of Rubens, it won't be surprising to see him being lighter than Button. Vettel, too looked pretty confident. Obviously the biggest improvement has come from Ferrari, but like last year they are making mistakes only bigger this time round. If James Allen is to be believed, he was in the Mclaren garage as he is married to Lewis Hamilton, and when Hamilton asked his team what they thought would be a safe time to get into Q2, he was told a 1:20:8s something. How Ferrari thought a 1:21.3 was good enough to get Raikkonen, only they and Raikkonen would know.

BMW should be in good shape after a couple of races when their DD diffuser arrives. Their car has a pretty identical front wing and nose to that of Renault, who themselves should improve once their new parts are on the car for Monaco and Turkey. It's getting very tight not only at the front but through out the grid and the team that develops their car from here on at a more rapid rate than others will come out on top. In a couple of races time there will be more than just two teams fighting for wins, so a lot of drivers will be taking points off each other. If Button ends up losing the title this year, he will look back at the Malaysian GP and the half points he got for it.

What happened with Raikkonen? %^%$&^&^%&%^%$#%T$% Ferrari!! The same happened what happened to Massa!

Massa can possibly be the lightest in the top four bunch.

Massa most probably will be the lightest of the top five i would say, and running him close would be the two Toyota's, i suspect. If ever there was a place for Toyota, to run light and have a 1-2 on the grid in the hope of winning, this was the track. I am surprised that Alonso didn't run light and do a glory lap in front of his home fans. Over at BMW, Kubica is talking about the wrong tyre choice made by his team which cost him dear in Q3.

Mclaren are screwed! If the car does not perform on a track like this, it means only one thing. Something dramatically wrong with it's aerodynamics. That can be a very hard thing to fix with so many variables. Safe to say, the dream of winning either title is over. They should go well at high downforce tracks like Monaco, Hungaroring etc.
