BMW Sauber became the sixth Formula One team to unveil their challenger for the 2009 season, with a launch event in Valencia, Spain.

The German squad, who have set their sights on fighting for the title this year, were one of the first teams to run with a 2009 aerodynamic package in testing last year.

BMW's technical coordinator Willy Rampf says the new set of rules for this year has made creating the new car an exciting challenge.

I think BMW and Mclaren look best of all the cars launched so far.

    Guys,

I have been ultra busy for the past two weeks or so, that is why I couldn't reply to your messages. Hopefully, normality will be restored in the coming days. I will then post my share of replies for sure.

By the way, I don't hate the new Ferrari design at all.

Technical analysis of the BMW F1.09

BMW Sauber had the only full interim car running with semi-legal bodywork, slicks and KERS before Christmas, so the unveiling of the F1.09 at Valencia's Ricardo Tormo circuit didn't produce any major surprises.

With the greater resources applied to it since mid-2008, the F1.09 appears to be more complex and considered than any of its rivals. Additionally, despite a conservative commitment to have KERS ready for Melbourne, BMW are believed to be ahead of their rivals in hybrid development.

BMW F1.09The huge front wing is unchanged from the test car, with a simple main plane and a two element flap. As with McLaren only the top flap moves, controlled by an electric motor fitted inside the endplate.

The emperor indeed... yeah I dont get why the yellow is slowly taking over the whole chasis?! Maybe blue represented silvio baby...

by the by anyone read the Bernie interview where he said he hoped Massa won it this year? Made me chuckle a bit... I wonder if Ecclestone got a bit miffed after the whole racist fiasco of last year between him and hamilton...

The emperor indeed:-) Just thinking how the in season testing ban would affect teams especially if the third/ test driver is not allowed on Friday as they were sometime back. A driver will now become even more important as Friday becomes a free testing day, and his feed back would be vital towards the development of the car.

Blue was Mild Seven Livery. With cancer sticks now banned in F1 that livery isn't there anymore and slowly has been taken over by the yellow of Renault.

Sorry but i have stopped reading anything Bernie or Max say unless someone points out something interesting or intelligent they might have said by mistake.

    @UK

Well to be fair the fact that bernie hoped massa would win it instead of "the hype" shows bernie is still capable of intelligent thought (unless the wife got it in the divorce settlement)... with you on Max though... what a twerp!

Oh yeah... mild seven... been so long since i've seen that on their tail that I completely forgot about that... Rothmans on the williams if I'm not mistaken and Marlborough on the Ferrari? Ah good old days...

Yeah... can you believe how much raikonnen is gonna hate having to actually act like a driver when there isnt an actual race on... I want to be in on the conversation he has with his team engineers... I wonder how many *hic* hiccups he's throw in one sentence...

Looks like federaly is back with a vengeance... granted Safin wasn't in top notch form (over the hill?) but still Federer was hitting his shots and getting them in... should be interesting to see how he does in the next match... watch out for Tsonga too man...

sorry was off topic... I hate Hamilton!

    Hamilton "can beat Schumacher"
McLaren's Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton can go on to match or even surpass Michael Schumacher's record of seven world titles, according to new team principal Martin Whitmarsh.

"Oh yes, he clearly has the potential to do that," Whitmarsh, who will take the helm from Ron Dennis before the season starts in March, told the Guardian in an interview published on Saturday.
"He won't talk about it because he's too modest, and what Michael did is extraordinary. But with great champions you don't want to match it, you want to beat it.
"The key thing about Lewis is that he's still very young and he hasn't reached the peak of his powers as a racing driver," Whitmarsh added of the 24-year-old Briton.
"That must be very worrying for his competitors."
Hamilton, the youngest Formula One world champion, said at the unveiling of his new car last week that he would be starting the new season in a more relaxed mood and with his goals reset "back to where I started out in Formula One".
Whitmarsh said Hamilton, who won the title by a single point despite winning fewer races than Ferrari's Brazilian Felipe Massa, was determined to to win the title again to show that he was a worthy champion.
"We'll see what happens after that. But I think he can do whatever he wants because the immense pressure he was under last year has been released," he added. "We should be in for quite a journey."

Raikkonen would need to give feed back, and that is something he is not known for apart from the obvious, Friday being drinking day of the week for Kimi

They ( FIA) must allow test drivers on Friday or else some teams who start the season well might start to fall back very quickly, and that`s why i feel you and i might be on the opposite side of the fence come the start of `09 season, but its too early to say anything right now. Am eagerly awaiting what Adrian Newey comes up with. He`s ace at exploiting these situations, and with the Renault engine up to speed and Vettel onboard they could surprise people.

Watched Federer`s match and he looked awesome. Granted Safin is not the player he was back in what was it 2005 or was it `06 when the two met in the semi final? Federer`s forehand seemed to be back. Looking forward to the next week.

Man its stuff like that that gets under my skin. Schumi, for all his faults and all his critics, was a seven time world champion. For a guy to win the championship once and be declared capable of beating the big guy seems ludacris. I know hamilton doesnt instigate these kinds of claims but he sure as hell doesnt rubbish them either. The guy is talented for sure but lets not get carried away just yet

I don`t like to compare drivers from different eras. Everyone who achieved success had their set of hurdles to over come. Mr Hamilton has a long way to go before his name should be taken in the same breath as second tier F1 world champions let alone with those who sit at the very top of the sport.

British media have waited twelve years for this success and are bound to go over board. Having said that, i must admit seeing the shoe on the other foot does give me some joy :-)

Anyway to the more important matter, the great Houdini escape act of Roger Federer. The forehand i was on about in an earlier post was no where to be seen in his match with Berdych. Federer seemed flat for best part of the first three sets. Last time i recall him doing an escape act like this was against Nadal some years back. On current form, where he blows hot and cold from match to match, I don`t know what to expect from his next outing.

So the drivers are taking a stand against the approx. 200 pound sterling increase in the license fees... nice to see multi-millionaires taking a stand on principals.

Just finished watching Murray's match and am still astonished to read the excuses the brits are coming up with for the guy. Its not that Verdasco played circles around the scotsman but apparently the game was given away by Murray. No one would take the mickey out of them if they would not talk up their sporting personalities so much. The federer match will be pretty cool too. I wonder if we shouldnt just start a tennis thread here. I feel guilty talking about that on the F1 forum...

but as usual to keep things in perspective:

I do not think Hamilton will win the championship this year

The way Fedex has played last two matches its really amazing how he came from down under to win a straight set game.

As for Hamilton he hasnot won it last season either but still in the history he is a winner.:p
