You are right but remember the Interlagos 2003 incident where Alonso's crash caused the Red Flagged that was happens just after the deployment of Safety Car because of Mark Webber's crash and he missed the Yellows. He was lucky that after such a huge shunt he didnot suffer any injuries that was a real high speed shunt.

    Renault given two-year suspended ban

Renault has been handed a two-year suspended ban for its involvement in fixing the result of last year's Singapore Grand Prix, with Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds receiving bans from motorsport.

The full verdict from the FIA's WMSC

At an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council held in Paris on 21 September 2009, the ING Renault F1 team ("Renault F1") admitted that the team had conspired with its driver Nelson Piquet Jr. to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, in breach of the International Sporting Code and F1 Sporting Regulations.

Renault has said it accepts the FIA's decision to hand it a two-year suspended ban from Formula 1, after apologising unreservedly for fixing the result of last year's Singapore Grand Prix.

    Piquet not expecting forgiveness

Nelson Piquet has said he does not expect forgiveness for his involvement in the fixing of last year's Singapore Grand Prix, as he admits he must now start his career from zero.

Oh boy!!!!! tell me you were sleeping during this whole saga. Looks like you have not visited this topic in last 2 weeks or so.

The summary of Renault Saga is Nelson Piquet accused Team Renault F1 in general and Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds in particular that they have ordered him to delibrately crash his car just after Alonso's super early pitstop at turn 17 and he obliged to that order because his contract with Renault is on the line, Flavio and Pat both first deny the accusation then the truth came out of Pat's mouth when he admit that something of such discussion happened just before race but the delibrate crash suggestion was Nelson's idea. FIA takes the matter to WMSC and WMSC has banned Flavio from F1 for life while Pat has given a ban of 5 years from F1.

Also a very happy Eid Mubarak to you and all pakwheelers.

    @genius83
    thats bad for Renault though.
Nelson wasn't a good driver either
    He sucked at race-pace.
The new driver Romain Grosjean is better than him.
but what will happen with the drivers if Reanult gets banned from F1 ?
As far as I think Alonso will be moving to Ferrari but no idea for Romain Grojean.
Nico Hulkenburg will be coming to William next year and Rosberg will be heading to Brawn GP.
Kovalainen will be thrown away because of his race-pace.
and Raikkonen will be at McLaren alongside Hamilton but i can't think that who will be the first driver for McLaren Hamilton or Raikkonen ?
btw Raikkonen has a chance for getting another title for himself because I have a feeling that McLaren is going to be really strong next year and the same goes for Ferrari.
I was off from this thread for like 2 weeks or so.

Renault is not ban at all by WMSC but rather handed a suspended ban just like McLaren got for Spy-Gate scandal. Now if Renault found guilty of doing any thing illegal in future they will be ban for 2 years from F1 otherwise they are allowed to compete in this season and also in the future seasons. As for McLaren's as strong as this season is depending whether Mercedes downgrading of engines are successful or not.

Eid Mubaraik to all the visitors of this thread.

Interesting week and a more or less expected decision regarding Renault. If anything, it's a little harsh in my opinion as Renault was not involved in anything as a team and it was three people who came up with the shameful idea, in fact it seems it was Junior who came up with the idea. Now who would believe that, but he did! Not only did he come up with the idea, he then went public with it after he lost his drive and got immunity for doing so FIA could never afford to have Renault thrown out of Formula 1, it was never an option for them. There was always the likelihood of Renault pulling out of F1, what would happen to Red Bull as a result for example? More importantly what would happen to GP2? A two year suspended ban is quite excessive, if it was felt that Renault had done something to warrant such a punishment then they should have gone ahead and given them a proper ban. A suspended ban has helped save a few drivers, especially Kubica and Raikkonen who might be part of a direct seat swap with Alonso.

Jean Todt's election would mean a period of less friction. At least Mosley admits he has been part of the problem and not part of the solution over the years. Todt's election would be nothing except a continuation of the bad days of Mosley, and nothing more.

Enough problems this year. It would be nice if we can get some racing now without further controversies.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

    Ferrari 'still pondering' driver choice

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says the team has yet to decide whether to retain Kimi Raikkonen for next season or replace him with Fernando Alonso.

But he reiterated that there were no doubts about Felipe Massa returning to the line-up as soon as he had recovered from the head injuries sustained in Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying.

Alonso has long been linked with a switch to Ferrari, with di Montezemolo openly admitting at Monza that the team was interested in hiring the double world champion at some point in the future.

Renault has appointed Bob Bell as its new stand-in team principal in the wake of the departure of Flavio Briatore for his involvement in the Singapore Grand Prix race-fix controversy.

Bell, who was the team's technical director, will take charge in the temporary restructure that will remain in place until the end of the season. He will also be the outfit's chief technical officer.

As part of the reshuffle forced about by the events of recent weeks, Jean-François Caubet, currently director of marketing and communications, will become the team's managing director.

I think that if this plan was Nelson Piquet's idea then most probably this was Nelson Piquet Snr's brain child which he forwarded to Junior and junior presented it to Flavio and Pat.

The dust has not settled from the Renault case yet and new rumors have started doing the rounds that next on Mosley's list is Ferrari's Luca de Montezemolo, and Toyota's John Hewitt. Once he does that, he would have taken down all the big players of the break away series with him and pass on the torch to Jean Todt to carry in much the same way as Mosley did. Of course, Ron Dennis and Flavio Briatore presented themselves for Mosley to strike them down easily. It might not be so easy with Montezemolo, given the limited time Mosley has on hand but his "good work" might be carried out by Todt, who is not favored by Ferrari to head the FIA.

With the latest developments in the Renault saga, title sponsor ING and Mutua Madrilena quitting with immediate effect but interestingly deciding to continue their sponsorship with Alonso in a private capacity, and Montezemolo changing his tone completely after the Renault verdict which exonerated Alonso, means that he, Alonso will not be driving a Renault at least next season.

You indeed are a genius!! Yes, it can't possibly be Juniors idea, he is too dumb. His father on the other hand is a very intelligent man and you might be spot on about all this being his idea. Why they did it, and when they did, why did they come out with it? There is the story of the mysterious Mr X, the whistle blower but it would have been his word against all the others. At least Piquet jr would have had some hope of finding a drive in F1 some day some way if they had kept quiet. By making things public the father and son have pretty much made sure, Piquet will never driver Formula 1 again.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

ING ends Renault deal with immediate effect

Key Sponsors Dump Renault but Keep Hold of Alonso.

Renault title sponsor ING has terminated its deal with the French car manufacturer with immediate effect on the back of the team being found guilty of fixing last year's Singapore Grand Prix.

Just days after Renault was handed a two-year suspended ban for its involvement in causing a crash in Singapore 12 months ago to help Fernando Alonso win, ING dropped a bombshell in the early hours of Friday morning when it announced it was ending its involvement in the team immediately.

A statement issued by ING confirmed that it had chosen to pull its sponsorship deal because of the events of the last week.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

He holds the key to the driver market so news regarding him are reported.

Alonso hopes to know 2010 employer 'soon'

    F
ernando Alonso on Thursday revealed he has made his mind up about his employer for the 2010 season, but not yet signed a contract with that team.

It is now perpetually speculated that the Renault driver will move to Ferrari next year to replace Kimi Raikkonen.

In typically theatrical fashion, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo admitted 24 hours ago that Felipe Massa's next teammate will be either Finnish or Spanish.

"My mind is already made up," Alonso, 27, told reporters in Singapore when asked about his next team in F1.

However, he said a contract has not yet been signed, meaning he is not sure what colour uniform he will be wearing at the Bahrain season-opener next March.
