Ferrari rules out Massa racing in '09

Ferrari has emphasised that Felipe Massa's test in a 2007 Formula 1 car tomorrow is only an early step in his recovery programme and does not mean he will be fit to race before the end of the 2009 season.

The Brazilian has passed a series of medical tests in Paris in preparation for tomorrow's run at Fiorano, but the team says the examination proved that he will definitely not be ready to make a full return until the start of the 2010 world championship.

The test will just be a chance for Massa to gentle re-acclimatise to driving an F1 car, according to Ferrari.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

Massa feels like old self after Formula 1 car test

Felipe Massa says he is the same driver he was before his dramatic accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix after testing a Formula 1 car again on Monday.

The Brazilian, sidelined from the sport since he fractured his skull in Hungary, returned to the wheel of a grand prix car at the Fiorano circuit, where he tested a two-year-old F2007 car fitted with GP2 tyres.

Although he didn't complete many laps, Massa said he felt as if the accident had not happened.

"When I was inside the car it was as if nothing had happened: I'm the same ******* as before," Massa was quoted as saying by the ANSA news agency.

"Everything went well, I felt very good physically, it felt like the crash from 25 July had never occurred. I haven't had any eyesight problem and today I'd be ready to do not just one, but two races in a row.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

    Renault vows to be aggressive

Renault boss Bob Bell says the French squad will approach the final two races of the season aggressively in order to try and secure sixth place in the championship.

Currently Renault is in seventh position with 26 points, 8.5 behind Williams and just two ahead of BMW Sauber.

Bell says the team's approach needs to be aggressive in Brazil and Abu Dhabi if it is to beat its rivals.

Coulthard: Button title would boost F1

David Coulthard believes Jenson Button would be the best ambassador for the sport if he manages to hang on and win the world championship - but warned that his compatriot could not be confident of the title yet.

Button can wrap up the championship in Brazil this weekend if he finishes in the top three, or if rivals Rubens Barrichello and Sebastian Vettel fail to out-score him on the day by five and seven points respectively.

Coulthard suspects that Button has enough of a lead to clinch his first title, and despite his close relationship with Barrichello, the Scot thinks Button would fulfil the champion's role well.

"Jenson should do it," Coulthard told reporters in Brazil. "Rubens is a friend and I've known him for years and it would be fantastic for him if he won the championship but if you think selfishly about the sport, Jenson would be better for the sport.

Force India recruits Szafnauer in reshuffle

Force India has undertaken a major management reshuffle, AUTOSPORT can reveal, with former senior Honda figure Otmar Szafnauer replacing Simon Roberts as chief operating officer.

Although the news has not been officially confirmed, AUTOSPORT understands that team owner Vijay Mallya and McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh addressed Force India's staff at its Silverstone base on Wednesday to reveal the changes.

No explanation has been made for why the restructure has taken place, which comes on the back of a dramatic upturn in form for the team following its tie-up as a technical partner of McLaren and Mercedes this season.

Roberts arrived at the outfit as a virtual unknown outside of McLaren, but he has impressed with his efforts and approach this season to help guide Force India to its maiden pole position and podium performances.

As given on the link provided by genius83, and reading on some other websites, rain is forecast for the GP weekend. Though the weather system is changing rapidly from 60% chance of rain earlier to heavy rain and thunder storms forecast for the race now. On a track that should suit the Brawn GP car, rain might bring yet another twist into this year's championship, bringing five or six people into play for a win should the expected rain arrive. It will also be fun to see how the fantasy f1 league goes if rain plays havoc with the GP.

And now, why i want Vatanen to win the FIA Presidency. The number one reason is of course Todt's endorsement by not only Mosley, but Schumacher too. That is reason enough to want Todt to lose but here is another, and a much better one in my opinion

Asked about how he views the aftermath of the Renault crash scandal, Vatanen says, “Sport should be wholesome and today it is not. It needs an organ of justice which is separate and neutral. How is it possible that this famous Mr X, who contributed to the conviction (of Flavio Briatore) won out in the end? And why, if Charlie Whiting (FIA race director) had received information on what happened in Singapore, didn’t he investigate it? the result of the world championship could have been different.”

He is an out sider and might not win, but if he did, boy would that be a breath of fresh air F1 needs badly.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

FIA plays down neutrality breach claims

    F
1's governing body on Thursday played down reports that senior FIA officials are breaching their neutrality by assisting Jean Todt's push for presidency.

The leaked emails made it appear that the Frenchman is being unfairly favoured due his support by the incumbent Max Mosley, but an FIA spokesman insists that other officials are bolstering the campaign of Todt's rival, Ari Vatanen.

"We are aware that people are campaigning on behalf of both candidates," the spokesman was quoted as saying by the PA news agency.

    Massa: Alonso knew about race-fixing

Felipe Massa says he remains suspicious that Fernando Alonso did know about the deliberate crash plot at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix - but has vowed not to let it affect his future relationship with the Spaniard.

Massa spoke to Brazilian media during a get-together in Sao Paulo on Wednesday and, during the lunch, he said he was in no doubt that Alonso had to have been aware of the plans for Nelson Piquet to crash deliberately in the Singapore event last year to try and help him win.

"In all, he is the least of the problem," Massa was quoted as saying by the Brazilian media about Alonso's involvement in the affair.

    Barrichello plays down Massa comments

Rubens Barrichello reckons Felipe Massa's comments about Fernando Alonso and the Singapore race fixing scandal were just a reflection on the injured Ferrari driver not being up to speed with paddock events during his absence.

Massa caused a media storm yesterday when he was quoted in the Brazilian media as saying Alonso must have known about the plot for Nelson Piquet to deliberately crash and cause a safety car that would be key to the Spaniard's strategy. He later played down his comments in a statement issued by Ferrari.

In recent weeks Massa has been highly critical of the decision to let the result of the Singapore race stand, as he had been leading prior to the safety car but failed to score after a disastrous pitstop under the Piquet-instigated yellow.
Come back, Luca Badoer, all is forgiven.

Barrichello grabs pole, Button down in 14th

Rubens Barrichello claimed a crucial home pole as both his title rivals had disasters in a remarkable, wet and extremely long Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying session, which lasted nearly three hours in total thanks to a string of rain-induced stoppages and delays.

World championship leader Jenson Button will start only 14th having stayed out too long on full wets as the track improved in Q2. But he at least has a large points lead to fall back on - whereas Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel qualified an even worse 16th and needs at least second place tomorrow to stay in the title hunt heading to Abu Dhabi.

Mark Webber joins Barrichello on the front row in the second Red Bull, ahead of another great qualifying effort from Force India's Adrian Sutil in third.
