Default What Kind of Car is Best For Pakistan

I am putting together a consortium of international talent to investigate the ideal cars for the Pakistani People. We are doing market studies, but I value the opinion of many PakWheels contributors. Also, if anyone here feels thay can make "World Class" contributions in a greater capacity, I would love to hear from you. The idea is to assemble a team to design and engineer a family of cars leveraging global internet access to exchange CAD and Engineering data and ideas using Pakistani ex-patriat talent who can not come back to Pakistan...This is real and gaining steam, so please take this seriously and save any jokes for other posts. After all, what better forum to conduct such research.

Please Describe the following, your reasoning, and comments on regional needs, ie, city vs. mountain use etc. The intent is to look at a complete LINE of vehicles from a 4 door family sedan, 2 door sports coupe, minivan and pickup. What would sell and why for each segment; What should be the price/performance balance:

    1. Length
    2. Wheelbase
    3. Width
    4. Engine displacement and power (please be realistic)
    5. Weight
    6. Option range (A/C standard or optional? CD, Airbags, Seatbelts, Power windows...you get the idea.
    7. Price (without tax)
    8. Projected sales volume in cars/year

    Thank you very much!

so Indica has more then 10% share in indian car market, good , but here in Pakistan Suzuki Mehran(800cc) priced at around 4 lacs(US$7000) has a share of more then 25%.
This market has a great potential for a new sensibly designed/finished small car like Revo and you know what its already selling like a hot cake !

both nick and c123 raise good points. It is the era of Globalization now. May the best man win. And if among some of us mortals, we want to attach certain label (i.e. National Car) to a particularcar, to inflate our egos and feel good about ourselves, then by all means do it. But at the end, the best, most competively priced car with best options, makes a head way. Currently, its not that Revo can not compete, but more of how they will handle bottleneck of supplier issue. That car itself is causing alot of stir, and more demand than anticipated by the Adam Motors, they are having tough time keeping up with supply of cars, and getting material from their short listed vendors, fast enough. This is where the ultimate consumer starts to judge the car, how fast they get the delivery, then they focus on how much the car fulfils their expectations. So far, no real negative feedback, other than delivery of the vehicle, although the justification for delay in delivery can be blamed on suppliers and all the other cars are being delayed, but this should not be the criteria. Hopefully, no other issues exist, other than late delivery of the car, as everyother assembler.
Permanent positive change (in your life, or the society) with proper planning occurs slowly. While without planning any change becomes a disaster rather quickly. Said by Whocares...

considering the exchange rate parity. 400,000/- in pakistan means around 280,000 in India. Somake this a part of your feasibility of exporting to Pakistan

India's much larger market allows more amortization of tooling and fixtures, thus a lower cost.

If this vehicle were in 200,000 vehcles per year sales volume it should cost Rs 150,000 Pak to sell before taxes...

And BTW, nickatnite, don't forget taxes

That was a logical point about exchange rates. Motown is also very right about better fixed cost absorption rate due to high volumes. Difference is very well explained.

    Appreciate the complementary input, Spectra.

@nick, I meant the 65% tax coming into Pakistan - post WTO...Which would bring it above the Adam Revo and Mehran I think...open to correction

Why isn't anyone pointing out that the price of Mehran actually starts from PKR 315,000 for standard model?
And PKR 315,000 converted into INR @ PKR 1.352629 per INR (according to Yahoo Finance Currency Converter) amounts to INR 232,880. So where's the price difference?
    Evolution interrupted.

This market has a great potential for a 2 - 2.25 lac rupee Brand New car... post-WTO, only the cheapest with good quality will survive
If compared to Mehrans sales at around 30,000-35,000 units last year at base price starting from 3.25 lacs, I say any new comer with good quality small car can sell 60,000 units, if , priced at 2.25 lacs and the sale will INCREASE after WTO, as this cars demand will be all over the World !

@c123pk...good points. My concept has evolved over the last few months with great input on this very forum. I sarted out with a plan for just the Pakistani market, but you are right on the money.

A low cost stylish looking basic car for around Pakistani Rs 150,000 that can seat 5 people with great fuel economy can sell very well.

Our Global analysis puts it at over 1 million units annual volume. So Pakistan can be the source and we go from there.

To do this, as I have said before, needs highly innovative manufacturing approaches to achieve low cost of entry, yet rapid assembly capability for the throughput sought...along with exceptional product design...no easy feat, but I am poised to do this.

Toyota sells 4 million cars and trucks per year in the USA, a forign country to them...Think about it friends.

Sir I cannot find a single small car priced at 3,000 US dollars ! Think of a solid, stylish looking 600cc car priced at 3,000 dollars and the 1000cc version at 4,000 dollars... overnight success after WTO !

The price differeence stays there because indian suzuki 800 starts at 1,79,000/= without any premiums !

    Indian Rs. 180,000=4000 US dollars

And Pakistani Rs. 1,80,000=3,000 US !
