I wish they replace the engine with common rail diesel .. Toyota D4D s
    2.0L -95 bhp ,giving around 5.4l/100km
    1.5L -65bhp . giving 5.0l/100km ..
with ABS EBD, which comes with the engine ...

this engine is obsolete for this heavy new body.

Agree with twin turbo. they should put in d4d engine. the new avensis in uk does 55.1 mpg on new d4d engine.

Even if Pakistan corollas used old d4d engines, that will still do 48mpg.

I believe the 2.0d saloon should come with alloys and also an auto option and be priced for abt 15 lacs

Sorry just make correction.. Its 1.4L D4D diesel engine , not 1.5L///
Plus even u have our current new shape rolla with 1.4L D4D ... it will be in lower tax bracket .. lower on token tax aswell .. plus very economical on fuel.Less noise ,Less vibration. equiped with goodies .. as standard.. ABS,EBD, traction control, etc etc ..

the current engine is 20yr old ... or may be more .. its too much now .. the moment they change to this engine sales will increase drasticly... cuz even if petrol /diesel r of same price .. but when this new engine give u 55mpg ...... god .. ! then nobody with buy petrols and get into hassle of cng .. n stuff .. the worst part about installing a cng in a new corolla is that the warranty voids .. its no more valid even if u hve driven 100 km on it

^its more the governments fault than toyotas.
Pakistani diesel and infrastructure are sadly unable to support the new diesel engines. Our government is selling us the poorest diesel compared to all the neighboring countries, with no signs of improving!
Toyota does not want to get into warranty problems by introducing the newer d4d engines. Its as simple as this :-)

Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

I do not know how these institutions buy their vehicles, but the pickups bought through indus are not D4D.
Its actually not easy (if you come to think of it) for toyota to put in old engines especially for the pakistani market. These cars (with their on-board systems) were concieved for the new generation of engines. For example try getting the board computer to determine the fuel average on the 2C!
So for some markets, they have to roll back the drive-train according to the local conditions. Since the demand of corolla and the pickups in Pakistan is high, they are able to offer special versions only for this segment.
But I dont think that they have been able to do it with the HiACEs and the Prados. They are imported, and I am also not sure what warranty is offered on these vehicles...

    The situation Toyota and other big-elephants (who have been minting money for decades) are facing can be best described as;

    Waqt Waqt Ki Baat Hai

The prices should be further declined so that we can get
    'value for our money'
    ...
Drive slowly and attentively! It's the only solution to avoid severe on-road accidents.

    @RL589
no brother, the sulphur content is also not as high as you mentioned. If that were true, we all would have been dead! :-)

Please refer to the following link:
    http://www.cleanairnet.org/caiasia/1412/articles-40711_SulfurDiesel.pdf

I am really ashamed when I see this. The EU (today) is selling diesel with 10 ppm sulphur, and Pakistan 5000 ppm (i.e. 0.5-1% sulphur :-) and more with no signs of improving!! Even our neighbours are way better off! And then they talk about reducing pollution and introduce Euro 2 bikes. This is all a big joke!

All the talk here is about the politicians, and even they do not want to solve such important problems!

so as I have mentioned innumerable no. of times before here on Pakwheels, high sulphur diesel causes:
    • -Acid Raid
      /li
    • -Air pollution (shortens human life-span which we dont care about anyway)
      /li
    • -rapid degradation of Engine OIL (which explains the 3000km oil change interval of diesel cars in Pakistan), and thus
      /li
    • -shortens engine life (resulting premature overhauls)
      /li

In the UK, the 1992 corolla diesel with the 2C engine changes oil after 15000kms! You can find old diesel corollas with more than 200,000 Miles, with original engines and injectors (not to mention that they are also Euro2 compliant!). Infact almost every engine in Pakistani scrap yards has at least 100,000kms on it (for sure)!!
