The point is that the forecasts were right in front of them. They knew gas won't last long. And now it has almost run out. When you do business, you take risk. And when something goes wrong, you take responsibility, not cry to government.
When there is not much gas left, from where can the government give gas to the industry?
And they were never forced to buy gas generators, they bought them at their own risk. Just cuz the government gives you an incentive to do something, doesn't mean you have to do it.
Today they are crying for gas. After 4-5yrs, when local gas runs out, they will start crying again to government to import from Iran or China, and when the price will be too high, they will cry again to government to subsidize imported gas so they can keep making more money at the expense of rest of the country.
And I'm not blaming industry for using gas, I'm blaming the government for letting them use all the gas and encouraging them.
But I am blaming the industry for crying all the time, instead of doing something on their own.
Right now we have the capacity in terms of junk power plants. The rental power plants are already junk, but the Independent power supplier plants are almost as low in efficiency as the rental ones. Almost all of the plants in pakistan except a few new ones which are setup by china are very very very low efficiency.
Other than that, if they do pay the suppliers the money owed, the government will go bankrupt in no time. So instead of paying the power suppliers, they are busy filling their own pockets. No one is innocent in this business, everyone has his own interest. And the independent power suppliers are also not farishtay, they also sold very very expensive electricity on very high margins in their time using junk second hand plants of efficiency which even most third world countries dont accept...
So the entire argument that pakistan has the capacity is non-sense. We dont have the capacity to efficiently meet power demands. And the only thing that keeps the price still affordable( for the wealthier ) is hydro power and even that is loosing efficiency.
