    TVS APACHE RTR 180cc

South Indian bike maker's flagship model gets a capacity upgrade. Competitive pricing and features set to take the battle to the Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi.

TVS Motor Company has launched its new performance bike for the Indian market. The Apache RTR 180 takes the company's flagship Apache RTR brand further with a displacement upgrade to 180cc, apart from some interesting additional features.

Based on the earlier Apache RTR 160, the company claims that the RTR 180 is pegged at about the same weight as its predecessor of 137 kilograms. The larger engine now makes it churn out a peak power of 17.3bhp at a high-revving 8500rpm, and the peak torque of 15.5Nm kicks in at 6500rpm. The new RTR shares a similar chassis and suspension setup to the RTR 160, with gas charged shock absorbers at the rear.

New for the bike apart from the engine are the front and rear petal disc brakes (which were also seen on the fuel-injected version of the RTR 160), new graphics and some appealing new colours like the pearl white seen in the picture.

The new RTR 180 will be taking the fight to Bajaj Auto's recently revamped Pulsar 180 DTSi. Priced competitively in the Pulsar 180's vicinity at Rs 63,900 (ex-showroom Delhi) and Rs 64,900 (ex-showroom, rest of India), the RTR will be relying on its extra bits like the front and rear disc brakes and its snazzy design to take on the Bajaj offering. There's a show-off between the two in the offing soon on

Apache RTR 180cc based on legendery Suzuki Fiero with "Racing DNA"(TVS racing uses these bikes and evolved with indigenous research!).RTR 160cc is also marketed in India.got rear disc brakes as well.

    Review here:

I think Apache 180cc looks better than Pulsar 220. and as usual hero honda is lagging behind the race with their old horse - "Karizma" -a 223cc bike first released on 2003.many knows it via MTV Roadies program et al.

Daniel Velandia Completes 35,000 Miles on Bajaj Pulsar 180cc DTSi

Colombian biker, Daniel Velandia traveled across three continents astride his Pulsar 180 DTSi UG II, finally ending his epic journey in Pune at the Bajaj plant.

What began as an idea of doing a fun ride across South America and Africa soon became a journey of self-discovery, freedom and the very spirit of biking for 34-year old Colombian biker Daniel Velandia. Many will wonder what is so special about Daniel since there are a lot of bikers touring such great distances all the time. Well, not only was this Dan's first ever long distance touring ride but more importantly, he did it on our very own Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi, which he fondly calls Elvira.

Hero Honda Karizma ZMR with pgm-fi(fuel injection) is coming soon in few months time as posted earlier.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-FI(fuel injection) and DTS-i(latest version) ,Hero Honda Karizma R are Both Good Touring Bikes along with Legendary Royal Enfield Bullets. But the issue with karizma is spare parts cost which is too much for many! While Bajaj Bikes can be serviced and spares procured anywhere India,Nepal,Srilanka,Bangladesh and may be at Bhutan too easily.

While TVS is yet to release a touring machine.Their RTR180 is a thorough Racing Bike with the Engine being a Gem(although vibrations at some rpm ranges).I Hope TVS will launch a Touring Bike.

Touring in Motorcycles as group as well as Alone is something which is relaxing ,enthralling for many.Especially Royal Enfield Bullet Clubs are Common here in India.

    About ZMR News:

In order to add more muscle in its premium segment portfolio, Hero Honda is gearing up to launch the Fuel Injection (FI) version of its ‘Karizma’ model. Apart from equipping the bike with its patented PGM-FI technology, instead of the carburetor, the bike will also get cosmetic styling changes in front fairing as well as the rear cowl.

Tentatively christened as Karizma ZMR, the 223cc bike is speculated to produce 21bhp power @ 7.5k rpm and 21.5 Nm torque @ 6.5k rpm, though nothing could be officially confirmed. It is widely believed that the cost of the upcoming Karizma will be around Rs. 10,000-15,000 more than its existing Karizma, with both versions to co-exist in the market.

Another two-wheeler giant who will launch its bike this year is Kawasaki. The company is drawing up plans to bring in its models in the through the Bajaj dealer network by 2009. The Pune-based company will first launch the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, which is likely to be priced at around Rs. 1.75-2.0 lakh, ex-showroom India. The company said that the Kawasaki Ninja will be introduced as a completely-built unit. Kawasaki Ninja 250R bike is renowned for its splendid combination of power and fuel efficiency. Kawasaki Ninja 250R can be considered to be an entry level sports bike although it can pass off for a good street bike as well, as claimed by an auto enthusiast.

Unconfirmed media reports also suggest that Yamaha India is out all stops to carve its niche in the Indian bike industry, is gearing up to roll out a couple of bikes by September’09. Though nothing has been announced by the company yet, unconfirmed media reports suggest that while one of them would be a new model in the Fazer series which would be in the premium segment, the other one is expected to be a CBU model like the R1.
