According to the September 2009 issue of FastBikes Magazine (Fast Bikes), both bikes have been given equal ratings.

The Yamaha R6 is a high performance bike on the track, but on the road they claim it to be a bit "allergic" to power gains. They also say it has a bit stiffer suspension (because its more race spec) and may be uncomfortable to ride for a longer period.

The Honda CBR600 according to them is "better than the R6 on the road but it just lacks balls and a decent setup to show its promise". Its more comfortable to ride than the R6 but it is just more "fashion than function"

I'd recommend the Yamaha R6. Why? Because we people are used to riding stiff suspensioned bikes. The CG125 for example isnt a heavenly thing to ride - but we all enjoy riding it. Plus the thing they mentioned about it being a pain to ride on the road, lots of people commute long distances to work on sport bikes (in the UK) so maybe it may not be that fun to ride it on the roads there than it is on the track.

Where are you from? If you're from Karachi, you have great roads at Devil's Point or sea-view to thrash the bike. If you are in Lahore, you can cruise down the Canal Road in the evenings or late at night when there's little traffic. If you're in Islamabad, then, lol, you can thrash it anywhere you want, the Isb-Pindi highway, Margallah Road, 7th Avenue, 9th Avenue - you name it, its upto you. And I am sure you wont be riding the bike in peak rush hours...

If I was in your shoes, I'd go for the R6, because a bike like this is meant to be thrashed (not abused though), and if you are that sort of person who loves to take a bike to its limits, this is the bike for you!

    P.S:

Check out these ratings. Top rating is 5 per category. The categories (from left to right) are: Track, Fast Road, Hooligan (i.e. stunting capabilities), New Rider (learning curve of the bike for a new rider) and Desirability:

And these are the CBR600's ratings:

I wont call it exotic, "exotics" is a term associated with European machines. Ducatis are exotics...

R6 is performance in the purest form. Period.

Plus the picture of the R6 given by S.S.S above is a very old model. The new one (post 2001) is a very good looking one ...

I wont call it exotic, "exotics" is a term associated with European machines. Ducatis are exotics...
Hahaha, i just said that the bike is exotic meaning _exy! and by no definition in the world an europian car/bike is called an exotic! Any brand prodcing very expensive cars or bikes with un usual specs and beauty can be termed as an exotic car/bike.
    whether japanese or european.

    @ s.s.s

Dude normally it is advised that u upgrade gradully, at first a 250cc/400cc starter bike(even some 600ccs are starter bike bcoz theyr not aggressive)
How ever this wud take more effort and money... U can directly start from a v.v.aggressive bike like R6 but u need tobe v.v.vcarefull. Infact when u il ride it the bike wud scare u itself and u wont try 2 do any panga...

World over both brands Yamaha and honda are known 4 their durability and toughness, Yamaha however is also famous 4 its performance.. yamaha bikes dominate in every cbike category(CCs) with one of their models...
Ill recomend Yamaha over honda.. as it has got both things.

@Automotorsport: Oh, I see .... But Exotic is a term associated with European machines...look it up in some car/bike magazine.

@ S.S.S: As far as your question about upgrading is concerned, its upto your coping/learning capacity. I can easily get adjusted to any bike - its a matter of 3-4 days. So if I were you, I'd go for the R6.

But if you are worried about coping up with the sudden jump from 125cc to 600cc - then go for the CBR600. As they are more easy to ride ...

With my little experience/knowledge of bikes i will definitely go for R6 (you know brand loyalty... ) + the pic posted of R6 is not with it's original exhaust it's an after market thing... the original one looks really cool... + Yamaha R6 has been selected many times for the most beautiful bike of the year...

According to experience, I'd take CBR600RR over R6 any day. It has better handling and steering stability system, its a bike in which the rider blends into and becomes a part of the machine!
