Exclamation Tips For Protecting Your Motorcycle Against Theft/Snatching

    Dear all,

With the number of motorcycle snatching/theft incidents on the rise, I wanted to consult you all regarding motorcycle protection. I hope that some of you may be able to help/contribute.

    1) What insurance options are available to ensure the motorcycle that covers theft/snatching? Insurance Company names for reliable companies, and details on insurance policies applicable would be very helpful. I only know of Adamjee and EFI, but I'm not sure they cover motorcycles.

    2) Tracker. I have heard that this can be installed on a motorcycle. Is this true, and is there any point to this? I have heard that the tracker can be jammed pretty easily.

    3) Locks. Any kind of locks that can be used to prevent, or at least delay the theft long enough for you to find out and chase the thief away. Note. Make sure you're packing a gun. Any point to locks? I know that they can be broken/picked easily enough.

    4) Anti-theft devices. What kinds of devices exist and what are the most effective?

Any other points that I have missed, please add those. This should be helpful to everyone, so let's try to keep it positive and flowing.

I am using U lock on my bike. Which lock the front wheel of my bike... It is pretty nice and difficult to open seems to me...

But as you know locks are for decent person not for thieves
Defeat is not when you start to losing the race.....it is when you refuse to Accelerate!

I have no idea what it looks like so I am not sure what to even look for. In any case, does anyone have any input regarding the other points, specifically insurance?

YamahaYb: What is a good place to get that installed? Someplace close to DHA EME is preferable.

No one has posted any comments regarding insurance. Don't any of you have any sort of insurance for your motorcycles?

I have also installed wireless remote control locking system in my 125. Its is preety good and even work at a distance of 100 meters. Means if ur bike is being snatched, don't protest... let them go and lock it at some distance. It will jam at the spot and start alarming. But of course... REMOTE SHOULD NOT BE ATTACHED WITH THE KEYCHAIN, otherwise... you know... they will get all. It cost me Rs. 850 with installation in Islamabad.

Most of those locks mentioned here can't do anything about the snatching of motorcycles. They may work for simple stealing at day time from public places.

At night, thieves don't care about locks. They pick it up, throw it in a suzuki dala and off they are...they can open all sorts of locks later tassali se when its in their garage.

I think the best option is to give your bike an unwanted look - I've seen people replace the cosmetic bits of Honda Motorcycles by bits from china motorcycles. It makes the motorcycle less desireable.

    Insure your motocycle.

Yeah, it appears that the only thing that you can do is to get insurance. Sadly, I don't think anyone here has insurance to be able to provide any details.

Yamahayb100: Mcleod road is too far away for me. I need to find someplace much, much closer than that. Besides, how secure is this system anyway? Shouldn't any decent mechanic be able to easily bypass this system?

A couple of years ago when we bought our youngest brother his first motorcycle, we got it insured. The per year insurance was 2.5k, which I believe is nothing when it comes to peace of mind.

And can you confirm that it was insured against theft/snatching or was it one of the other policies where only third part damages, first party damages or some other such was covered?

I have EFU comprehensive insurance for my GS150, it cost me about 4500(5% of total cost of the bike) for a year.
It covers everything except damages due to:
    1- Hit or reward
2- Organized racing or speed testing

If the bike gets snatched during the first month then i'll get full 100% payment(without registration), after that this amount reduces with respect to time till the max of 85% in the last month.
