Default Tips for Buying used motorbike

    Dear Pakwheelers,

I am interested in buying used Honda CD-70 or CG-125. I am a bit confused that which one should I choose. Recently I had a very bad experience with Unique -70 brand new as it started malfunctioning after the first tuning and lost me almost 12-13k in resale.

Therefore I need your valuable suggestion that which above mentioned bikes would be good for me as I live in Karachi and what things should be checked or considered while searching the bike. But personally I like CG-125.

I shall wait for your response brothers.

    Thanks.

    Check for the engine..

    • Give it half throttle in neutral and check if the engine gives any sort of smoke from the silencer.
    • Listen closely to the engine for any grinding or unusual sound.
    • Take a drive and take some feel, a good engine should not lag in power, drive would also give you an idea for worn out clutch and pressure plates.
    • Check the spark plug a melted/ over heated spark plug is the worst thing you can find. Plug should have a brownish color.
    • Check for leaking gas kits, engine should not have grease, oil, fumes deposited on it.

    Check the electronics..

    • Everything including turn indicators, head/tail lights, handle switches etc.

    Check the frame, the body..

    • Check if the frame is twisted due to an accident! Check if both the wheels are perfectly aligned.
    • Rims are aligned.
    • Handle is bent.
    • Front fork is bent.

Check the general health of tires, battery etc.

If you dont know this all, take a mechanic along and ask him to do it for you. Good luck!

Thank you very much @talhabinomar and @Automotorsport_Lover.

@Automotorsport_Lover I need to know few things from your explanation.

    1. Do you mean grinding sound from the silencer when the throttle is turned out? and Does this thing has any effect on bike's performance?
    2. Which area of the plug should I notice for melt on the plug thread one or top one?
    3. Where the gasket is located on the engine if you spot in some photo so I can understand it better?
    4. What are pressure plates and what function do they perform and should I figure it that they are gone or how the bike will react?

Please also tell if all or some things are defective in the bike so how would I know that bike is not good?
    @talhabinomar

1.What things should I check in the documents and how can I verify them?
    2. How can I know that the bike is not stolen or used in any crime?

@Automotorsport_Lover. you can also comment on the above questions.

and ONE very most important things that how should I know that the engine is sealed and is powerful?
Again thank you very much for your valuable response.

By looking at your questions... i will suggest you to take a mechanic along and leave the job to him. You seem to know very little about vehicles

    Dear Pakwheelers,

I have searched many bikes but one bike I liked very much was Honda 70 1982 model it has a smart tank and looks but I have some reservations regarding it that Does it have CDI ignition system and if not how I can install in it and with other changes I could do to make it atleast look like Honda CD-70 2012 model and what cost I would incur in all changes that I will make?

Your answer would be highly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I to like Honda CG 125, if you can bear the cost of running a CG 125, you should buy it. Honda CD 70 will be ecnomical and will have better resale value. Buying a good first hand CG 125 2010 Model will be another option too.

Honda CD 70 will give to 65~70 KM in one liter where as CG 125 will do 43~48 KM in one liter.
