    Default Motorcycle Engine Oils

Aslam Alikum, Immediately seeing the title you may have said this oh not again again one more thread
for engine oil but guys please bear this one too purpose of creating this thread is to share the range
of motorcycle engine oils available in market and for this i want your valuable co-operation as i would
share engine oils & their pics which obviously will show the specification but i have access to only few oils
which i have used or which are available in my city
i can't access all engine oils so that is why i request all of you if you have used an engine oil or you have pics of
bottle you should share here & share your review about that particular oil
Your sharing matters alot as i alone can't collect all info about engine oils available in market

As i just said in last line of first paragraph your co-operation is important in helping me out
to collect info about engine oils available in market but also i need your help in Engine oils subject As i am not expert in Oils
if we search on net this subject is too deep so want to know your info about these important terms in engine oils
this thread will be useless if it does not have any details info about specification terms
so kindly if you find some good info on net share here

    *API
    *JASO
    *Viscosity
*SAE Viscosity Numbers 10w40,20w40,20w50 or SAE40
    *Single Grade & Multi Grade
    *Mineral & Synthetic/Semi synthetic
Etc notify if there are some other important terms

The Sole purpose of this thread is to collect info about engine oil available in market
    *Specifications/price & *Picture

^Sharing some basic info which i know as par my bike

API in simple word an company which gives certificates of quality to engine oil
so always look for this API label oil but some manufactures recommends JASO
But most motorcycle manufactures in pakistan as the big one
AHl recommends to use engine Oil with API SG,SF,SE or higher grade
you should look your bike manual for the details about your bike

Viscosity of oil is shown in the SAE numbers
most oils nowadays available in market are multigrade
first number which is followed by W (winter) shows the oil viscosity at low temp:
lower this number thinner the oil be at lower temp:
2nd number shows the viscosity of oil at high temp 100c: higher the number thicker the oil
20w40 oil will remain less thick at 100c as compare to 20w50
my bike manual says 20w40 is good all rounder for pakistani conditions
but depending on the temp user can choose which oil suits engine more

Now Lets Start Sharing Some Engine Oil Brand Which I Know Or Remember

There is atlas honda genuine oil too.
But now i am quitting Zic as it's gone API SL now, and these new grades come with less amount of some critical additives necessary for protection of old design engines like ours. I will be using Total most probably from now on.
My Advice: Use SL only if manual calls for it. Else best stick to SF/SG grades.

Anyway CG goes happy with 20W-50 too. It's the Suzuki bikes which give a little nakhra on thickish oils.

Here is piece from "Motor Oil" Article from wikipedia. A must read before you go putting SL in your ancient technology bikes.
    Ok thanks bro

    haha
Anyway, even if i had some super oil, i won't be comfortable using it for more than 2000Km in my bike. Because oil's job isn't only to lubricate but to keep the engine clean as well. And by 2000Km, i think it's full of enough deposits that it should be out and replaced with fresh clean oil.

Meray bhai i used to study at NUST,it was easy for me buying a few bottles from i8 as the distance was minimal.I reside in pindi bahria town so cant go to I8 markaz for lube.Thereis a LM shop in GT road Pearl Lube which has complete LM inventory. It was closed on friday and i didnt want to w8 so bought Zic instead.

OK guys this question just popped in my mind 4 days ago I went for tuning my bike and the mechanic said that as bike is driven 8000+km so it requries carberator cleaning but as I read sone where on PW that if the bike is going fine than there's no need of opening carb but the mechanic was insisting me to do carb cleaning but I said no to him and said him to do other things which r included in tuning and after he did I came home and searched about carb cleaners and found 2 common brands for carb cleaners one is liquimoly and the other is STP but as I never experienced any of these products so can anyone tell me that is it worth purchasing it and does it works as liquimoly sites says that u can pour this cleaner into petrol tank and it cleans the carb.also tell me about prices of both and which one to use.

Actually its very difficult to say as the bike has clocked only 25kms on new oil(Zic 4T semi synth 20w40).Gear shifting is smooth, what i am more interested in is the bikes performance after it crosses the 700 km mark as most of the oils degrade by 50% at this range and shear down from 20w40 to 20w30.

LM maintains its viscosity for 1000+ kms.One can easily stretch it till 1.5k kms

On the other hand engine starts whining on local oils after 800,the smoothness vanishes and the engine is begging for an oil change. That was the case with AHL oil.

For CG/125 cc bikes LM is by far the best choice.

For GS 150/GD 110 LM 10w40 semi synthetic

For 70cc bikes any 20w40 oil to be drained before 1000kms( i dont have much experience with locals as my bike was on LM)

Pridor and other 100cc bikes LM is great, locals can be used as replacement.

Also note that LM is a thick oil(true 20w50 on paper),it offers protection at the expense of acceleration/speed as compare to local 20w50/20w40 oils and one might feel that the bike is heavy or is not quick enough as compared to 10w40.So its up to the user to decide whether he aims for performance or protection.

    Those interested in performance 10w40

    Those interested in protection 20w50

20w50 is a great choice for old bikes but a word of caution. If someone has clocked 40k kms on 20w50 and he then pours a 10w40 bike will emit smoke and it would be detrimental for engine

No its the other way around. Its the usual practice which people do in cars. They use the standard recommended grade advised by the manufacturer.Like 10w40 for honda civic ex 98 afther clocking 100k kms people switch to 20w50 to retain the old engine. The problem is if a car starts emitting smoke using a higher grade oil helps in reducing smoke/maintaining pressure in the combustion chamber, prevents blowback and helps seal the rings(prevents gap)..

As our motorcycles have single cylinder blocks, the chamber is not intricate so its better to use a relatively thick oil which helps in protecting engine from wear and tear.Oil has to work 4 times more in bikes as compared to cars so a thick oil is better as it degrades slowly.

One more thing to add is that oil drain interval depends on 3 variables. The number of miles clocked, number of month oil stays in the block and last but not the least your driving style agressive/calm.LM 20w50 in CG 125 if ra**d like hell would loose viscosity at 1.1k kms but the same oil if driven with care can easily last upto 1.6/1.7k kms.Oil should be drained earlier than usual in summers/withing city commutes with frequent stops.

LM motorcycle carb cleaner is not available in Pakistan.I got my carby cleaned at 14k kms.If the bike is giving good avg no need for cleaning.Install an inline fuel filter .
