I need a bike for personal use (not an enthusiast) and all I care about is fuel economy and that it has to be self-starting.

Go For GS 150 Or Ravi Piaggio Storm 125, If You Go On Long Travels Than I'll Recommend You GS 150 Because Of It's Reliability Otherwise Piaggio.

If other then fual Ecnomy and self start ur third point is reliabilty (I am guessing) then you have even more less choices rather only two choices lol ..

So you can Choose your Style

    Retro Muscle : (GS150)

As far as I remember the fans of GS150 don't think of it as a retro bike.......for them its a "Modern" bike!
Bikes don't leak oil, they mark their territory.

both the GS150 and RP125 would not qualify under any circumstances to be called 'modern'. They're simple and honest motorcycles.

    GS150 Pros:
Good torque (very good pulling power even with pillion)
    Comfort and stability
    Reliable engine

    Cons:
    Some quality issues
    Bad paint quality
    Mechanic and parts availability

Ravi RP125 Pros (from what i've heard on the forums)
    Decent power
Some cool and 'modern' tricks like gear indicator, fuel guage
Engine is similar to the honda 125 so mechanics shouldnt be hard to find

    Cons
    Some initial quality issues

The GS150 has a retro shape and the RP125 has a modern look. It's not a modern engineered bike by any standards(both).

they work super awesome and are now offered with alloy wheels and tubeless typre malaysian tyres as well... one thinig they have to be improved later on is the battery becuase that battery is small 3.5AMP battery and goes bad in 6months hardly so it need to be replaced with china dry cell 7AMP battery and you are Good for years ahead.

if there are 70cc self starting bikes available, that would be great. Both Ravi RP125 and GS150 are very showy and not the sort of thing i could take to Qasba or wherever else in Karachi my work takes me.
