    Default Bike maintenance

    Salam brothers
I have few questions in my mind and will be really glad to know their answers

Q1: Can oil change be done at 280km of running?

Q2: Is it necessary that the bike to be tuned after the first thousand kilometers or can it be done after 2~3 hundred kilometers?

Q3: How frequent the oil change should be done ?

Q4: And how often the bike should be tuned to keep it perfectly working?

Q5: what parts are checked by the mechanic during tuning?

(Kindly answer these questions keeping in mind:
■The road conditions are very poor.
    ■Rough usage of bike.
■Questions are related to 125cc bikes)

    God bless you brothers

Q1: Can oil change be done at 280km of running?
Ofcourse oil can be changed any time..It is recommended to change oil every 500kms during break in period. You can change your oil at 300 then 800 and after that every 1000 kms on local oils. For rough road conditions as the bike undergoes continuous gear shifts. It puts an increased toll on engine and thus the lubricating oil.1k kms oil change is recommended.

If air filter is foam type clean it after every 1000 kms with kerosene oil.If its conventional replaceable filter replace it at every oil change.

Q2: Is it necessary that the bike to be tuned after the first thousand kilometers or can it be done after 2~3 hundred kilometers?
It is always recommended to follow manufactured guidelines regarding service intervals.Recurring tuneups for a mere 300kms interval is NOT AT ALL recommended.Bhut ziada tuning karanay say bhi bike ki performance effect hoti hai.

Q3: How frequent the oil change should be done ?
    Every 1000kms or 3 months whichever comes first.Minimum 1000 max 1500.

Q4: And how often the bike should be tuned to keep it perfectly working?
Cg-125 manual states every 2000kms(maybe).My manual recommends tuning after every 2k kms..FOr 70cc bikes interval is 1000kms.
For rough usage you can tone down tuneups till 1500kms

Q5: what parts are checked by the mechanic during tuning?
    Oil change(if required),Tappet adjustment,chain adjustment,brake/clutch adjustment,re-lubing parts,tightening nuts and bolts.

DO NOT USE USED OIL FOR LUBRICATING MOTORCYCLE PARTS.Buy a bottle of gear oil and order the mechanic to pour in fresh oil on chain and parts.

gear oil on chain? you prefer a dirty bike and early worn out chain?

buy proper chain lubricant in a spray can - buy it from industrial supply stores - they have tons of them.

Sir chain lube is the right way but its not available here atleast in twin cities..Gear oil is just an alternative we have to live with what we have. The only chain spray can available in pindi from ryders costs whooping Rs. 2500 for a 300 ml spray can

@Xulfiqar! Using engine oil on chains is messy, but does the trick (if we keep an eye on it, and lubricate it regularly after every 2000kms or so). I also read that in developing countries such as ours, its acceptable to use it as chain lubricants.

    What are your views?

Then, I think one must use lighter engine oil for lubrication. Such as that of 2 stroke.

One must use the thickest oil available i.e gear oil cuz low viscosity oils never stick on chains instead they make a mess and drips away very quickly.Clean the chain with kerosene then apply fresh gear oil.

i think you need to look a bit harder in industrial supply shops. the motorcycle parts dealers know nothing of this sort. if you are using gear oil to lube the chain its useless as its not sticky. same with mp grease.

spray can chain wax is the best and not that hard to locate. the outfit selling it for 2500 rs have lost their minds.
