Default bike question regarding registration/customs etc...?

So guys, I've seen some used bikes that the owners say have complete documents and are registered but are not custom paid. So my question is, how come they've got it registered without paying customs ? Is a NCP bike illegal ? If I buy such a bike and get stopped at a checkpoint, can something go wrong?

Also, if the bike's custom has not been paid, can it be paid or is it possibly illegal for ever....?

Without customs clearance there is no genuine registration of big bikes. Those documents might be fake.

Some 7 years ago I had the option to buy a 250 registered in Mianwali. However, the owner himself said that the bike was NCP.

    They probably have fake documents.

You cannot clear the custom duty on a ncp product- you will have to hand it over to custom walas and then proceed to win it again in the bid.

At normal police checkposts, they don't stop you that much. The proper traffic police might stop you and remember, the custom and tax walas roam around in civil clothes.

    Easy.
Buy it as a ncp- strip it. Keep all the good parts and take em off. Replace with crap parts and find an insider in customs. Get him to catch you and win the auction. The value is calculated depending on the condition once you win, replace with proper parts, which you already have.

    don't like it that much...

I'll find another one thats custom paid

Anyways, the bike is Honda CBR250RH (MC17) that I'm interested in. Has a 4 cylinder engine that goes upto 18k rpm and sounds like an F1. Seems like an awesome bike...

So do you know the customs rules regarding bikes? Like how much duty and if older bikes can be imported...?

The only legal way for clearance of non paid bike is after it comes out from customs auction.
What people normally do is, buy non paid bike and rip all good parts from it and put on a scrap bike which is customs cleared, in which case engine number can be replaced on papers after payment of requisite dues, and which is all legal process. In short, its the chassis which matters..in the end you can throw away the chassis of NCP bike.

However, remember that customs people are very vigilant these days and if they catch you with the NCP bike, not only they will confiscate the bike but also you will have to face criminal charge. So at PW we all say a BIG NO to illegal bikes. Ride clean and ride safe..
