Default Storage of Motobike for more than a year.

    Dear Pakwheelers,

Can anybody let me know the correct way, how to store a motorbike for longer period. I have GS 150 2014 model with 3500 KM on ODO. I am going out of country for a year. I need a checklist which can quide me the steps i should take for preparing my bike for such long period of hibernation. I am more concerned about the Chrome parts and specially the rings and piston, which someone told me that they can get rusty, if left un-operational for such a long period of time.

    Regards,
    -Atif.

I think these type of storage instructions should be mentioned in owner's manual. Please consult from there.

It has been parked in the store. I'v done following steps so far for the storage.

    1. I've flushed the old engine oil and poured ZIC A+ along with the Oil filter.
    2. Emptied the Fuel tank.
    3. Turned off the Fuel cockpit.
    4. Got the bike serviced from a petrol pump. As suggested by the service station wala, he sprayed cocunut oil on the chromed parts and foot rest and main and side stands
    5. Romoved the seat and petrol tank and dried the water beneath. (Water, that accumulated during the service.)
    6. Applied Turtle chrome polish on the colored parts.

    Thats it...:-)

    DO:
    1. Empty Engine from Oil
    2. Drain Patrol from tank and from Carburetor
    3. Remove Battery (U need to change battery when u return back after a year because liquid batteries cant survive after 2 months Max)
    4. Use full stand and cover bike Chromed parts (Silencer with Newspaper, as we covered room Fans) - U can Use Wide black Tap
    5. Complete Cover the bike

    DON'T:

    1. No need to remove Plug

Do not empty the fuel tank. Fuel tank is best kept filled to the top. If you are emptying the fuel tank then you should use something in order to save inside of it from corrosion due to condensation in the empty tank. It is better to keep it filled.
Similarly do not drain engine oil.
