Thumbs up Ownership review: 30,000kms on ud-100 (2011)

Alhamdulillah! it has clocked over 30,000kms and still going strong. There were numerous doubts about its reliability but it surely has outlived expectations.Yes! i went for the looks of the bike as it was something definitely out of the box and cheap too at about 60,000 Rs in 2011 but it also has performed well over the time.

Design : Obviously the bike excels in this department.

Performance: It has a very crisp response and a good acceleration.Top speed is about 85-90 kph(you can achieve more in ideal conditions) and you can cruise very smoothly between 60-75 without any vibrations. In the initial few kms clutch had a sort of clunking noise while shifting from 1st to 2nd but it went away after 1500 kms.Engine is 98cm3 unit produces about 7Hp uses 900ml of engine oil.

Comfort: Both the rear as well as front absorbers are very good indeed.Soak up bumps very nicely must be one of the most comfortable bikes on the Pakistani roads.

Brakes: Easily the best specially the front discs.Had some narrow escapes from accidents due to these and of course by the will of Allah.Happy to say never hit anyone though people have hit the bike from rear due to massive braking power but well thats a trade off you'l have to make.

Mileage: Gives me around 50 kmpl but may give more if you drive it around 50-60mkph,I usually drive above 60.

Handling:Also very good never had any issues.

Lights: Very bright and evenly spread like that of a car intensity is a bit less than those of cars yet still very good.Has a dipper switch as well.

Instrument cluster: Has all the information you'll ever need like rpm, speedometer, trip meter, fuel gauge etc .Almost anything you'll find on cars cluster you'll find it here.

Safety: Crash bars on the bike though i never liked but are very good in case of accidents.Accident tested it my self once and made me realise how important they are.

    Pros:
Nice new design with alloys.Always starts on a single kick or self.Good reliable engine and transmission thus far.comfortable ride.Excellent braking.Goog mileage.Excellent cluster and lights.very accurate speedometer.

    Cons:
Well mostly they have nothing to do with the bike itself but are related to after sales service of unique. They don't have a good aftersale service so you'll be searching for parts if you need them but with time i have come across a few shops on akber road, khi. That provide parts of this machine but yes parts aren't as easy to fetch as for a 70 or 125.Mechanics don't know much about the wiring and electricals of this bike so i usually keep them away from this bike otherwise they'll ruin your machine.Resale will be an issue if u want to sell it so if you want to buy it you have to keep it for a good number of years so that you can extract most out of your money. The dipper switch is not very functional as the intensity of full beam is not very bright with the low beam on so usually its barely noticeable on well lit roads.

    Upgrades:
Recently installed a remote start system which remotely starts the bike from a distance also locks and kills the engine for 1500Rs.

    Maintenance guide:
Wax the bike after every month to retain the new like shine.
Oil: Have been using Zic4t(fully Synthetic) and changing every thousand Kms never had an issue.
Air filter: Doesn't need to be replaced only cleaned but if you want to replace buy honda 100 air filter and cut it out like uniques.
Side mirror: If broken purchase honda's side mirrors they will fit without a problem.
Sprockets: Khan Autos at akber road khi sell its sprocket front, rear swell as chain.
Spark plug: Ngk spark plug for 70 fits in perfectly.
Brake shoes: Honda 100 genuine brake shoes, they are a bit costly but last five times the life of local brake shoes and also have gr8 stopping power.
Brake pad(disc brakes):They are available at Shari Autos,Akber road Khi(Mr.Imran.0300-2217722) although needed to change them once in 3 years.

Parts and where to find them:

Rear cowls, side pockets, mud guards, speedometer cable, lever for front brakes(deluxe lever also fits),instrument cluster, pocket for tool kit, tail light cover were available at Shari autos.Though they are not of the highest quality but do the job and they are not painted you'll have to paint them yourself. He had bajaj headlights which he claimed would fit ud-100 with minor alterations.Carburetor of this bike was also available with him.Any horn will fit the bike.
Clutch and choke wire i have replaced twice from Saeed manzil, khi. There are numerous cable walas there they will put a new wire in the assembly and make new for you.
sprockets and chain was available at khan autos akbar road, khi.
For the bikes tank and plastics at unique autos in akbar road there is Mr.Mujahid he arranges such items but i have heard he is a bit expensive.

Bro , I have both and if u have the money go for ybr its plastics are way superior aswell as build quality and that engine revs so happily sending power all through the rev range.... That is ud --100 belongs to one of the very comfortable bikes on road with good braking but ybr is ybr fullstop.

Can alloy rim of unique 100 be balance? If yes from where in Karachi? I have also installed a new tyre in back but still unbalance. Rare rim seems to be unbalanced.

I don’t think it can be balanced you can either replace with simple spoked one or on my recent visit to shari he quoted 7500 for new and 3500 for a used pair.
