Default Where Have All The Trail Bikes Gone To?

    AOA,

When I was in my teens, the sights and sounds of trail bikes where very common, I can still remember the sound of Kawasaki KE 175 without muffler. I had owned Mopid bike with engine and paddles, Honda XL70, XL-125, XL-250, Yamaha Enduro 100, DT-175, DT-400 and Suzuki TS-100, RM-400.

I have seen reduction in their numbers to the extent that trail bikes seems at the brink of extinction.

I wonder what might be the reason of reduction in their numbers and why no body imports them any more?

    Gone fishing, what else!
Seriously though, you're a 45 Y/O gentleman... you were a teen back in the late 70s and early 80s when a black and white television and telephone was a luxury to drool over...! And a telegram was the fastest way to send a message! I was born in 1990 but I sure wish that I was born in the 60s and 70s! That was a great era, you should be proud to have lived it, sir...
Anyway, lets not get carried away by ages and eras and stuff, shall we?
Lets come back to the smartphone dominant world where a super computer is in everyone's pocket!!!
Thing is sir, a two smoker can't survive 3 decades! As a matter of fact, not much can for 3 decades... Except a Cadillac that's been built like a fortress!
No surprise that these old smokers are out of our hairs..
Get a Yamaha YBR125G as life is all about... MOVING ON!
But then again, we are STILL stuck with 80s Mehrans and 70s Honda 70...
In Pakistan, life is about... STAY PUT...!
    Ha-ha! Anyhow,
    Good Day, sir!

One of the reason is... People are inclined more towards sports bike. HEAVY BAKE having loud sound attracts more people rather than a decent height comfortable trail bike.

Sports bike got loud noise, more top speed. The two things that people wants. Trail got none of these.

    Trails are more practical IMO.

Trail bikes might be comming again to the market..as the initiative was taken by Yamaha (YBR G though is not a full trail bike) and then United came with their trail...so keep waiting...

Trail bikes and heavy bikes belong to two completely different leagues and completely different mindset is required for each. As I was more interested in offorading, I always kept trail bikes.

Much of offroading scenario has changed, although not much. For people who want the best of both worlds ( i.e. occasional offroad plus regular commute ) a new segment called "Dual-sport" has come along. Such examples as Kawasaki Versys, Suzuki V-Strom, Yamaha FZ-07 / MT-07 are now more popular among folks who want a comfortable ride as well as carving mountains every once in a while.

The new versions however, are inline ones,, i.e. fuel injected , so are difficult to maintain as no companies are locally making any of those in Pakistan as most mechanics are lulloos, so the import duty can go upto 200% on top of the original cost. Good luck buying those.

in Karachi in 90's, two bikes were special target of snatching, GTO 125 and DT, rumor was that pick of both bikes was great and they were considered good as getaway vehicle, in cars it was charade.
If better were within, better would come out.

My two favourite types of bikes are those war time bikes (they look like the moto guzzi or Indian scout) but my second favourite is trail bikes. I've been looking around for an enduro in good condition but most are completely ruined . Probably the only bike my dad will buy me is an enduro lol
