ZX9R Kawasaki, 1996 model, The engine is a bit messed up , wanted to purchase the bike , the guy said get the engine overhauled and it will be fine. I am ok with overhaul as long as it doesnt give me trouble for 6 months atleast. What I wanted to know is whether after overhauling it would be ok, I dont want xtreme performance but a heavy bike is a heavy bike then would really aprreciate if you could help me out. Thanks

Engine can be perfomed well if the repairing is required only in Ring, Piston, Valves, clutch, & timing chain but if the bike requires repairing of crank shaft, big ends, Cam etc then it will be messed again even in two or three drags so for proper over haulin u need parts in good condition or better to replace the engine.

If ur targeting only a heavy Bike not specificaly sports then try to find some street/Cruiser bike in good condition.
BTW wat is asking price of that ZX9 & is it leagal?

have been out of touch with biking world for the past 7-8 years. my experience of keeping heavy bikes in pakistan, is that if you can get a good one (with sound eng.) get it, but incase it needs eng work stay away. otherwise you will have to get a railway pass from karachi to peshawar or have to get a frequent flyer from pia. as you will be on hunt for parts not next couple of months.

Thanks alot for the feedback gentlemen, The crank is busted but I have been told I can get a replacement for 10-12 K, Obviously you get what you pay for, I know it wont be giving me the durability of a 06 model but then again I have quite a limited budget. The bike is legit, non accidented, original fairing, and with repairs should not be more then 210 000 , which I think is fair enough as a 1997 gsxr 750 is on the market for 400 000, The mechanic is pretty confident that the bike will be in good running condition aslong as proper repairs are done. Bottom line looking at the budget I feel its ok, however please feel free to add coments as theres no subsitute for experiance which I dunt have alot!!

hahahahahaha, Nice one TM, I really want to get the bike, however I dunt want something which I would be taking to the mechanic more and riding less!!! hence the reason for the query, As in I dunt have much local experiance of biking and there is a differnce in getting something fixed abroad and locally. Hence whether after repairing it with the budget quoted will it be worth it?!

@All , Gentlemen , thank you all very much for your feedback which has been immensely helpfull in knocking some sense into me especially Addy346, my passion for bikes had clouded my judgement! Bottom line is I would not be purchasing the bike as the brand new crank alone costs 85k and new engine 125k, the repairs if done locally would not last long , and hence the saying 'a poor man pays twice'! cheers
