    Default Auction of PAF Bikes

    Salam brothers,

    The PAF is auctioning 5 of their CBX 650s at the PAF Base Lahore on Dec 6 at 9am. All the bikes are in excellent, running condition, with mileage between 19k km to 43k km. I am not aware of the models, but they have square headlights and round meters.

    I would like to bid for one of the bikes. Any idea what should be their fair price?

    Thanks,

    Abu Jamal

    P.S. If anyone wants to participate in the auction, it is going to be held at Logistics Squadron, PAF Base Lahore. This auction was advertised in The News of this Sunday.

    Thanks Imran for your reply. The only requirement mentioned in the ad is posessing the original NIC. I believe it would be a good idea to bring along your NTN as well, as one needs to pay govt taxes additionally.

    You need to pay 25% of the bid value at the time of the auction. I believe the remainder needs to be paid within 4 days to take posession of the bike (you can check the ad for details).

    Are you planning taking a trip? Let me know so that we could meet up there and exchange notes.

    Imran,

    I would trouble you with a few more questions and i would be thankful if you could help me with the answers:

    - Are the spare parts of this model conveniently available?
    - Although their meters read between 19k and 43k, is it easy to find a replacement engine in good condition, and how expensive would that be?
    - My limited internet search revealed that this series was discontinued in 1987. Is that correct?
    - These bikes were never meant to be race bikes, assuming they produce 75 bhp at 9500 rpm. Does that mean they would be fuel efficient as well, considering the engine has only 4 valves/cylinder?
    - Would these be slow compared to the others in this engine capacity?
    - What will be the fuel consumption?

    I know i am taking too much liberty with you and hope i am not bothering you too much.

    Thanks

    A few more things about the auction: I was told that this is going to be an all day affair so plan accordingly. Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the premises.

    @abujamal

    1) Off course parts of these type of bikes are not easily available but can be find after some search from Bilal gunj Lahore or Ranchor lane Karachi.
    2) In used bikes without inspecting it phisicaly & driving it thoroghly u cant evaluate the condition so it might be possible that bike wid 19K running have worst condition & Bike wid 43K running cud have best condition among 5. Complete engine for replacemant can also be found after some search.
    3) Yes these models are from early & mid 80s
    Fuel consumption is good but cant be compare wid modern bikes wid same engine size Typicaly ~10km in city & ~15 Km on highway.
    4) As it is touring bike so cant beat modern ~600 sports bikes but sure have hell of tourqe to cruise around in upper gears.
    5)Beacuse of touring type & old model the weight is ~225KG which is more than Hayabusa & ZZR14.

    Can be used as daily ride if build & maintained properly.

    Rest of things can be disscused on phone my cell # is 0321-4001338 pls provide ur contact info so we can plan for tommorow.

    Never buy Army Surplus. They are usually beat up and way beyond their sell-by date.
    Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.

    Nick,

    The "As is where is" statement is always a bit daunting to the buyer, but I have found out that the Forces usually maintain their vehicles pretty well, as they keep them battle-ready. I wish our govt departments would take care of their vehicles just as much (sigh). The price advantage at suh auctions is quite tempting, don't you think?

    @usakhan

    No harsh feelings.
    Usauly these bikes are piece of junk & their auction prices are same as i mentioned. I had discuusion wid abujamal regarding there condition bcoz he visited them for inspection & as per him the bikes were in good condition & start so even in this case one shud pay 70~75 max for these bikes.

    BTW do u bought ur bike direct from auction for 140K?
    One of my friend in Karachi owns CBX650 fully build & he is asking for 125 K r u intrested in it ?

    @imranbhatti
    You are right. About two months back a motorway cop took lift from me as I was on my way back from Lahore to Sargodha. I talked to him about the cop bikes and their auction. His reply stunned me, he said never go for a cop bike they are mostly in miserable condition and he further said that they were advised not to drive the bike above 30km/h (no question of chasing a speedy car) and thats the reason that cop bikes are no more seem on motorway..
