    @foosa i have bought a 25o four stroke engine from Kawasaki TR250/Esterlla for 8000/-, complete with carb and cdi. AFAIK XL250 had 5 speed gearbox so was kawasaki. it was good engine with electric start and XL 250 had kick start.i put it in my 1985 Suzuki SF 370 and it showed good performance.

    yes XL 250 1986 model was not electric start and its kick start was very difficult to operate,i.e very stiff and it is the case i have seen with almost all single cylinder thumpers. my Suzuki 370 original engine had a vacuum release which made the starting a little easier.

    @foosa,do u want to install that engine in your chicom bike or do you have a frame of XL250. for your current bike, i think you should get the engine of Suzuki GN 250, it is a single cylinder engine and very fuel efficient and parts are very easy available even new engine part were available as they were issued to Punjab Police.
    if your current chasis can support, which i doubt, you can go for ZZR/EX/GPX 250 engine, which are twin cylinder DOHC and 8 valves engine.they will be available between 15 to 20 k. it is a small engine with a very narrow top end and can be installed but it is water cooled and u will have to fabricate some mounts for radiator plus some modification to
    grp panels of bike to ensure free flow of air.
    and if you have a taste for two strokes, then a twin engine from Suzuki RG 250 or Yamaha Tzr or Honda NSR 250 will super fine and no engine in this capacity can touch the powerband of a stroker twin.
    regards

    @foosa your best bet is Suzuku Gn 250 engine, single cylndir and almost same size, it is electric start and very good engine, i have seen one transplanted into a big Chinese cruiser type bike which had a same engine like yours which is a basically over bored & detuned Honda 125 engine. email or pm me ur cell number and we can talk on it as i have gone through this swapping process many times.

    @7th...i did some research work on that...the orginal company "KINLON" uses the same frame for its 200 model...so im taking the risk of putting a 250cc in it..

    @foosa

    Yup the engine i was talking about is the same as in link provided by u & as per specs its a four valve engine for sure not 5 valve actually the 5 valve thing was told me by my firend who owns that bike back in 1994. However the concern raised by @colt are 100% valid that its not electric start & Kick starter is quite hard actulay there is a preasure release valve on its head & this valve is actuated wid kick starter wid precise timing so once u disconnect it or get its setting changed it will become mess to get the bike start wid leg using kick starter.

    On the other hand Chassis of ur bike is definatley not enough to handle the power of ~25 BHP as far as 200CC engine of Kinlon is concern I m sure that engine cannot pull ~18 BHP so dont only compare the CC as the weight & out put power of engine doz matter alot.
