^^ I beg to differ mate. Here is a test I've done on my Gixer some time back..... when the speedo was showing 50Kph the GPS was showing nearly the same, about 49 point something however at 150Kph on the speedo the GPS showed 128 or there abouts. As per the law the bike speedo's can have a maximum error tolerance (higher but not lower) of 10% +8Kph. Having said that not all bikes show such a difference and my SV1000S the differences are much smaller at various speeds.

I guess on the smaller bikes which dont really go fast it shouldnt make much difference ? but then again perhaps the quality control on the production line for the smaller bikes might be less, ditto for their adherence to production laws

Does that holds for digital speed-o-meter also?

AFAIK, the auto companies are obliged by law to put in some speedo error. Thats a safety feature.

    @ROHANGENIUS

Both my bikes on which I mounted a GPS had/have digital speedo's and IMO bike manufactorers use analogue or digital speedo for styling purposes rather than for accuracy.

I've never mounted a GPS on a smaller capacity bike, well, in the days that I owned a 175cc bike I didnt even know what a GPS was and I dont think GPS units were available in those days ! :-) so I am not sure of the accuracy of the speedo's but given that the max speeds are very low hopefully the error range should also be low.

Dont you have access to a GPS ? or else a radar gun ? By the way, and I am not saying this to confuse this discussion further, some GPS systems will have small inherent inaccuracies in it so if you use a GPS for speed measurement dont base it on just one reading rather do it a few times and average out the readings

I have seen Indian bikes in several countries - making a difference thumbs up. In Indonesia, they have set up a manufacturing plant churning Bajaj for the domestic market with plans to cover the SA region from this plant. Being a fan of classic bikes - I can not overstate the elegance of Classic Enfield Bullet ! The latest models dont fancy much.

New Delhi, March 27: Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) will phase out the 150cc Eterno and exit the geared scooter market. The Japanese two-wheeler maker will focus on the gearless segment.

“We will stop producing the Eterno. We will not stay in this segment (geared scooter). Eterno will be phased out very soon,” said Shinji Aoyama, president and CEO of HMSI.

The company is selling only 40,000 units of the Eterno annually, said Aoyama.

On whether the company would introduce a new model to replace the Eterno, Aoyama said, “We will surely compensate with a substitute, but at the moment the new Activa is enough to take the challenge as it will give 15 per cent more mileage.”

Honda Motorcycles today launched an upgraded version of its gearless scooter Activa, which is priced Rs 39,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

With this rollout, the company said it was looking at an 18 per cent growth in two-wheeler sales in 2009-10.

For the current financial year, the Japanese company expects to record 17 per cent growth in sales at 10.6 lakh units.

“The Indian two-wheeler market witnessed a growth of 5 per cent in the current fiscal, whereas HMSI grew around 17 per cent in the same period. We expect to maintain this momentum,” said Aoyama.

“For the next fiscal, we have set a sales target of 12.5 lakh units for the Indian market, of which 7.4 lakh will be scooters and 5.1 lakh motorcycles,” he said.

The company has developed the new 110cc Activa to cater to the changing needs of customers.

“We are aiming at a further expansion of the scooter market with the new Activa and have set a challenging plan to sell 5.5 lakh Activas in 2009-10,” said N.K Rattan, head (sales and marketing) of HMSI.

Rattan said the company would add 100 outlets next fiscal to take the total to 750.

Earlier, HMSI had said it would invest Rs 300 crore over the next three years to expand its production capacities, besides introducing new models.

The company, which has a production facility at Manesar, has invested Rs 900 crore in its Indian operations.

HMSI also plans to introduce a 100cc bike in the next one year.

top speed of Pulsar 220 is 135 kph, which has been calculated using electronic speed measuring instruments, hence NO speedometer error.

on the speedometer a few guys have even seen around 140-145 kph

17.5 BHP is impressive. I also see a front disc brake in the pic of the GTO above. But the design isvery old.

by the way, is the GTO still sold in pakistan? also can you give any website link of Kawasaki Pakistan?
