I heard Bajaj is working on a two stroke engine (satisfying Indian Government's emission norms). Any development?

^No Idea, baba.2 stroke engines confirming to current and future emission standards are expensive to produce.orbital australia is one such company which developed 2 stroke with better combustion as well as meeting PUC. I owned yamaha rx100 for many years.infact ,during my college years at coimbatore ,2 strokers and restored Yezdi twin Engined 2 strokers ,RD350s were there in good numbers.now...I think 2 strokers are much less.

    ^^Thanks for clarifying

    No Idea, baba

    h3Bajaj plans two stroke bikes/h3

History repeats itself! two stroke engines will be back soon and they may power the future indian bikes. Once wiped out from Indian two wheeler industry for failing to comply tougher emission norms will be back nearly after 10 years. But how it can be possible, when Indian government is making the emission norms more stringent. Two stroke engine gets a new life through a new technology similar to common rail which saved the life of diesel. In this technology, two stroke engines will be fed through injection rather breathing through carburettor. Hence, these advance two stroke engine meets the stringent emission norms with 50% lower carbon monoxide ((CO) and 25% lower hydrocarbons and nitrous oxides (HC+NOx) than the earlier 2-stroke engines. Also this technology improves the fuel efficiency/mileage substantially

Bajaj which made great strides in the two wheeler market through its DTSi technology has recently introduced the GDi (Gasoline Direct Injection) technology in its three wheelers. Bajaj has brought the GDi to indian market through RE – GDi three wheeler. Bajaj got the license from the Orbit corporation of australlia (maker of gasoline direct injection technology). For more information on GDi technology visit Is direct Injection Bajaj’s next DTSi? Now following the three wheelers Bajaj is working on fitting this technology into bikes and scooters. Bajaj is believed to be working with Bosch for customising GDi technology for two wheelers. Bajaj may use this GDi equipped engines for the proposed global car ($3000 car) which it produces jointly with Renault.

Also Economic times reports, Bajaj is working to combine its proven DTSi technology with the GDi technology on bikes with smaller engines. The company wants to put the same technology in the volume-generating 125-150cc segments as an alternative to the existing four-stroke engines.

thanks anraj for the news.I knew that Orbit Australia are the leaders in this technology.but With this new technology ,2 strokers will be going to be costly. In Europe ,Aprilia Scootters are using Orbit's technology.but the news itself is 2 years old, right?

I have also heard that they are introducing Fuel injection technology in 2-strokes so they produce less smoke then usual.I'll try to find some info on this.

BMW looks to re-enter India's luxe bike market with Motorrad

21 Jul 2009, 0710 hrs IST, Sumit Chaturvedi, ET Now

Almost 13 years after its abortive attempt to enter the Indian market through a joint venture with the Hero Group, German luxury carmaker BMW is planning another foray into the country’s minuscule high-end motorcycle market.

The company is studying India’s high-end and premium motorcycle market to introduce its Motorrad range of super

    bikes

in India, said a top BMW India official. “Our people from BMW Motorcycle are having a look at the market.

They are also in discussion with us for feedback on the matter. As soon as we see potential for a viable market entry for sustainable growth, we would take that into consideration,” said Peter Kronschnabl, president, BMW India. The bikes of the Motorrad range will cost more than Rs 10 lakh in India, said another

    BMW

    India official.

The premium bike market in India is very small — less than 500 units a year — but both in terms of growth prospects as well as branding opportunity, it is an attractive segment. Although its earlier outing in India was not successful — BMW launched its F650 model in collaboration with Hero but the venture did not take off — this time round the German company may be able to sell more bikes.

Auto analysts say the presence of top superbike models such as the

    Suzuki

Hayabusa or the Honda 1000RR Fireblade and CBR 1000R and Yamaha’s MT01 and R1 has grown the market and increased the appetite for Rs 10 lakh-plus bikes. Bajaj is also planning to introduce big bikes from KTM and Kawasaki stables in the near future.

BMW officials, however, clarified that the plans are not for the short-term and it could take 1-2 years before anything is finalised. BMW Motorrad is a brand used by the German company for its motorcycles, which are in production since 1923.

BMW Motorrad’s G series, F series, R series and K series are available around the world. These bikes range from 450 cc capacity to 1300 cc capacity and are designed for off road, sport and touring purposes.

Although the total market for high-end bikes is still very small, the consumer interest in motorcycles as a lifestyle product is picking up. Suzuki, for instance, sold 93 bikes in the last six months alone while Yamaha sold 94 units of the R1 and MT 01 in the Jan-Dec 2008 period.

“We are regularly importing containers of our high-end bike Hayabusa and Intruder. Each container has up to 15 bikes and we are ordering new containers of bikes ever 1-2 months,” said

    Suzuki

    Motorcycle

India vice-president, marketing and sales, Atul Gupta.he company hopes to sell 100 more high-end bikes costing up to Rs 12.5 lakh by the end of current fiscal, he added.

    @rohan:

Yamaha RX100 Jap when first came to India in mid 1980s ,it was actually a made in japan 125 cc Engine producing 14bhp.but later on after 1992(IIRC),they are all 11bhp producing 98cc engine.but during start of 1990s itself ,local overbored racing kits were available(and may be still).for Yamaha 110cc kit was very famous.

    Hello All !!

So far as i have searched this topic.. It has been only featuring Indian Bikes and there had been no proper covering of Pakistani bikes which is not inaccordance to the topic. So here im going to post a detailed info gathered by me about Current Pakistani bikes so that our pakistani Bros and indian friends here could also learn better about Pakistani Bikes.

There are arround 35 companies working in motorcycles industry in Pakistan.. Amongst whch there are only 3 Japanese brands, rest are all Local and chinese and mostly with Bad quality Unfortunately.

I think the reason to the slow progress of this sector in Pakistan is un stable economic policies and poor Governance.

    Now here we go!

    h1Yamaha V-Max launched in India; priced Rs 20 lac/h1

Yamaha has launched its muscle bike, the Yamaha V-Max in India. At this point, this is the most powerful motorcycle ever launched in India, I think.

The V-Max produces 200 bhp at 9000 rpm. Here is a fun calculation: Each of those bhps would cost you some 10,000 Rupees!

At such a humungous price, the V-Max is not going to sell like the Tata Nano, for sure. However, as a flagship model that would bring the masses to the bike stores where they would buy the Fazers and the FZ-16s and the YZF-R15s, it would work wonders. Which red-blooded teenager would not want to take a look at this brute at the dealer?

Ah, one more thing. Many refer to the V-Max as the VMAX. Not so. It is the V-Max, with a hyphen after the V.

The price of Rs 2 million for the Yamaha V-Max is ex-showroom Delhi. I have no idea how much it would cost on the road – perhaps we should add another 1.5 to 2 lakhs to it to know the real price on the road?

A lot of us in India have heard of the Hayabusa, thanks to the ridiculous Dhoommovies. V-Max is relatively unheard of. Anyway, now we have superbikes from pretty much everyone available in India provided you have the moolah. Harley Davidson was the latest to launch in India, and Honda, Suzuki and other powerful motorcycles from Honda were already here. Kawasaki’s Ninja 250 too seems to be on its way, finally.

Like other motorcycles which bore the iconic name, the 2009 Yamaha V-Max too offers scary straight-line acceleration. The 1679 cc, 4 cylinder V4 engine offers 200 bhp at 9000 rpm, and 17kg at 6500 rpm.

Just like the last-generation V-Max, the 2009 V-Max too can’t have a great time on twisty roads. However, show it s straight stretch, and its fat rear tyre will tear out the tarmac in no time. The last V-Max itself was no wimp, producing 133 bhp. In the new motorcycle, Yamaha chose to up the power output by 48 percent! And you need to be built like a bull too, to manhandle this motorcycle that weighs in at 310 kg.

So its massive, too powerful and too expensive. Who wants to buy the V-Max in India then? A few motorcycle maniacs with enough money in their pockets thanks to rich dads or their own IT startups. That’s about it. The rest of us – we will go to the showroom, ogle the V-Max and then write out a cheque for a Fazer. Macho enough for 99.99 % of us, the Fazer is.
