    Default Cross continent trip

Hello people, after quite some time of browsing through forums, i've decided to sign up to get your help.

I'm looking for a heavy bike that's registered and legal and all. I intend to go on a road trip probably till Turkey, so the bike needs to be in a reliable condition, fuel economical, but not too expensive. I'm thinking a 250~400cc should be just fine.

But i'm confused between a sports bike and cruiser.

    1. Can you advise me whether a sports bike is suitable for such a trip?

    2. Can you suggest contacts for the option of getting an old auction bike and fixing it up with new engine and everything?

    3. How're these chinese bikes that became so popular? I think they're making some respectable 200cc sports bikes.

    4. Where and for how much can i get a used good condition registered CBR 250, something like 2000 model?

I've ridden the bike perhaps two times more than twice :-) but you're right in your comment, though your comment is based on half the information.

I'm thinking of getting a 250cc bike for now and using it for a few months till i become instinctive with it. I work at a remote location where we have an established colony with the minimum possible traffic as well, so its an excellent training ground for me as well. So there you go, things have been well plot out like any undercover operation in a spy movie that doesn't get sabotaged!

Congratulations on the purchase. Good luck with the preparations and trip.

I am really curious about your bike trip from Khunjerab, specially about the distance covered each day and overnight stopovers. At what places did you stay and how long was the trip?

We booked a complete coaster and set camp at Sost. We started off the next morning on a Hiace to Khunjerab pass where we off-loaded our cycles. We rode back to Sost, about 90km of ups and downs (the downs finish in 2min, the ups remain for eternity). We reached Sost a few minutes after maghrib.

Every other day we would travel about 40~50km and take camp by evening. We stopped next at Passu, then Hunza, Chalt, Gilgit, Besham, Mansehra and Islamabad.

We would stop over at different hotels, and would acquire a bargain of 50% off on EVERYTHING! Unbelievable, i know, but yup, 50% off on rent, food, everything!

Took us 11 days in all.

Not at all. Actually on our first day, we crossed an army check post at Dhi, a place between Khunjerab and Sost. Those guys told us that we were the first Pakistanis to be doing this. Don't know how true was that, but it did seem like it as everyone, especially the kids would be literally SHOCKED to hear us speak Urdu when they thought we were foreigners.

I don't see how a high performance road bike is suitable for a cross continent trip. These bikes are not designed to handle bad roads, or adverse conditions.

Interesting Post. I would recommend as some of fellas already did, preferebaly a Cruiser, if not then a street bike, if not then ur last consideration should be a sports bike.

I think for the best available options you should search for CBX750 Horizon or CBX750 Police version. u may find a couple of of Police Versions in Pakistan. They are the best for long distance thingy. I would strongly recommnend not to rely on chinese bikes.

Or else u can modify a sports bike with a little effort mainly on the handle bars and some drilling for the saddle bags and stuff.
Therez something about a hot engine between my legs that calms me down or I'll die with a HARD ON.
