Yo, InZane stop it! you're making me blush...But thanks, aeh, er, I think...Because it seems that you are insinuating that I am not among the "worthy drivers"...Well seeing as the RedHead was the worst of four cars I have rolled, totalled, or blown up (I swear it's true!) and two motorcycles, I guess I deserved that...lol!! (I'm not proud, just bruised)
So here's the deal: First of all, I am definitely not one who was born into money and I don't have millions sitting around to buy "toys" on a whim. I got the Dino, a 206GT BTW, on the cheap in 1986 and spent three years of my blood, sweat and gears and every penney I earned as an Engineer at Ford in Dearborn restoring it with my own hands, own wrenches, own lathe, own Bridgeport mill to raceable, but not full-on show condition...I'm a driver, not a poser. I raced it for two seasons and sold it in 1991 after Enzo died and made a small fortune (for me, a lowly Engineer)...Like art, massive appreciation in $ value after the passing of the Master, you know.
I do have alfredo sauce in a 10W-40 viscocity flowing thru my veins for sure. Check out the "Who's Who on PakWheels to see my "biodata"...I love that Pak phrase Also, if you want to know what real mischief I am up to, and I must say it's BIG BIG BIG, check out my post under Discussion Forums - Wheels in Pakistan - "What Kind of Car is Best for Pakistan"
Now I can't believe you like Harley's, man!? What's up wit dat? They are for cruisers. I race my Ducati 996 (to avoid taking Prozac)...lol Now a Buell I would understand...fill me in my esteemed brother.
I will tell you about the Testarossa wreck in three stages because it is a long but epic story. First the events leading up to obtaining the beast, then the ride, and I'll close with the aftershocks.
- I have been enamoured of Ferraris since I was a little kid. So when I learned that there was a Company Testarossa in the Ford Stable of test cars (as a toy for the Vice President of Design, Jack Telnack, Father of the Ford Taurus and Savior of the Company/my Hero and why I joined Ford) I proceeded to get the proverbial wheels in motion to drive this baby. Born in Red, as all Ferraris are before being soiled by other tints, it was a beautiful, 1985 Testarossa with centerlock wheels.
I Was an Electronics Powertrain Engineer and was officially researching using dual Engine Computers for a V10 truck engine I was involved with. No company made Electronic Control Units (ECU) for more than 8 cylinders at the time and we could not justify the investment for a unique one. So I convinced my boss, Walt Fitzgerald, a kind man, to authorize my acquiring the Ferrari for a day of testing on road and the High Speed Test Track in Dearborn. It had dual 6 cylinder Bosch Motronic ECUs...It was like pulling teeth to get time behind the wheel from Jack's assistant, one Lou Sphere, but after much hemming and hawing, I got it, or should I say, my Student Intern, Bob Eichund, got it since I gave him the task to make arrangements to fulfill this carnal fantasy of mine...I can't believe I'm getting paid for this, man! Talk about a dream job! Allah has been VERY good to me, Alhamdulillah.
So with keys in hand I approached the...car...slowly...with utmost respect...awe...mystery...fear...and pure complete unadulterated single minded..."nasha"...more L8R.
