Unhappy Honda 100 - Starting problem.

    As'salam-u-Alaikum all.

I got a new Honda 100 some 2 months ago in September, 2010.

I am very annoyed with it as it takes a lot of time to pick up the accelerator when it is started when the engine is cold. I have to keep the engine started for some never-ending 3-4 minutes before I can ride it. If I use the choke, the engine picks accelerator quicker. But I should mention that the bike starts on first or second kick, it just takes a lot of time to get "warm".

I went to Honda Antenna dealer (as my bike is still in warranty period) but he said it is perfectly normal and that I should use choke while starting the engine from cold state.

But I am not satisfied with this reply. I see many other bikes with equally cold engines as my Honda 100, but they are good to go the moment they are started. There must be something else wrong with my bike.

Can you please advise on what is going on with it and what I should ask the mechanic to verify? Because if I just tell him that engine takes a lot of time to start running, the mechanic would say it's normal - but I know it's not.

    Thank you.

I own CD100 from last 5 years, i also faced this problem when it was new in winter season, i have to ride atleast 1 km with choke ON and than the engine comes in its normal condition. Got the same answer from the mechanics which u got, but this issue resolved as i put more miles on the odometer even apart from its age my bike is still only 20000 kms driven.
So dont worry about this issue.

bro after doing some running, engine make more compression and carburator get more petrol ... other way is to go to some other good mechanic ask him to gain the petrol , in this position bike consume more fuel but starts without choke. hope your problem will solve.

also if you use the choke, clean your spark plug more frequently otherwise you may face starting problem cause carbon built up in spark plug when excess fuel goes in.

^ How do you manage to ride it for 1km with choke pulled?
Doesnt the engine turns off if choke lever is kept pulled after the bike has started as in CD70?
One of the most difficult things in the world is to know how to do something, and to watch without comment, somebody else do it incorrectly.

Honda CD 100 responses to throttle with choke equally well as it does without choke. However, the sound from engine head becomes sharper (probably the valves making extra noise, anyone?) as you push accelerator further with choke still on.

its called warm up - a cold engines inlet tract is not warm enough to keep the fuel and air atomised - it forms droplets

Apparently this issue can be resolved but riching the air fuel mixture but that will decrease the fuel economy The issue might feels odd to rider/owner of bike but there would be no harm to run bike on choke for few hundred meters. Logically speaking if the other bikes responds well in cold start even than its not recomended to get full load on engine till its temprature comes to the ideal range for its operation.

I also have had Honda 100 last month.bought it brand new and it has had the same problem.same starting issues as u r facing @poster ...
When i visit the Antenna shop the mechanic said it's due to fuel economical settings of the Carb...Just complete it's run in operation and then it will be normal, hence i kept on insisting that problem should be resolve at the spot.so he increased the Carb mixture setiings, and problem was solved...But it effected the bike economy ....Thanks
