    Default Santro BackFire Problem on CNG Only

    I have wasted alot of money going to different shops and even to Santro's own service center in Rawalpindi and Islamabad but they could not fix the problem.

    My Santro Executive 2004 model used to back fire on CNG and then its air filter box would open up with it. In the start, a tuning would fix the problem only for a week and it would again start. On Petrol it works perfectly without a problem.

    Then the problem wouldnt get solved, so I changed the plug wires and it fixed the problem only for a month and again it started to backfire on CNG. I had to change my wires twice again and it seems like it will go on. All the mechanics do is change the wires.

    My two questions are:

    1. Where does the fault exactly lie since its happening again and again and i cant keep on replacing wires?

    2. Telll me a GOOD place where people can REALLY fix problems of such CNG issues and not only do a temporary fix so they can see and fix the problem.

    @ahsanonline
    thanks for replying.. wont the Advancer(installed with the CNG kit) again advance the timing of ignition on CNG and cause a backfire??
    BTW replaced ignition coils today and havent tested the car on CNG yet. Added STP Fuel Injector Cleaner in the fuel tank because my car my idling very roughly on Petrol. Running it on petrol since then..
    I'm just wondering whether this idling problem is due to deposit on the injectors or some problem with the ICV(idle control valve)??

    @taimurali
    well i'll differ with u on this...cant be spark plugs... they r doing their job, that is, igniting the air-fuel mixture.. it definately has to do something with timing..

    My car's backfiring problem is pretty much solved now.. Replacing the ignition coils rectified the problem again...

    And update on the other problem on petrol: Adding STP Injector Cleaner in petrol made the car driveable on petrol as it was not very responsive on petrol. But the problem of rough idling is still there... i think it idles at about 2800 revs and keeps on fluctuating by itself.. what should i do to resolve this problem??? i tried cleaning the Idle Control Valve (the one highlighted in the pic below)(supposedly) with a carb cleaner but it didnt help...

    Plz tag the location of the parts u want me to get checked..

    P.S. Dont mind the condition of my car's engine bay... it gets abused a lot by my dad, he takes it to our farm and theres like 2 or 3 Kms of dirt road in the way.. n i dont let my driver wash the engine bay for obvious reasons.. and yes i know its engine is weak, it is consuming engine oil like anything..

    Dear Usman, U know that santro is an efi car. Means the engine works via all the input sensors to the ECU. The exhuast of the engine produces differential states of diffused and mixed gases. in which CO carbon mono oxide, CO2 carbon di oxide, HC hydrocarbon and some wasted gases are produced in a compact ratio. The problem of backfireing is relevant to such the outed ratio of these gases. The common mechanic just screwed the gas adjuster to avail maximum pick up. I have santro club and I feel much difference when I tune up my car on gas wid computer input sensor CIS machine from commercial marker named Master 2 garage. I feel much difference. My car had left the back firing and its look very light with great pick up. I examined that before tunned my car from Master 2 Garage, the CO was going upto 12.83 percent. After CIS tunning, the CO parameters was going under 0.02 percent which gave my car great pickup, excellent consumption and trouble free driving. I advise u to go theri for ur best ever tunning with CIS apparatus. For further cury, call me at 03435558053. And my good name is Taimoor. I am much confident that this will suits you to solve your problem. No need to change plug wires, air filter etc. etc. Regards

    @thebluemoon
    u're absolutely right. but what i think is that these aftermarket CNG kits dont use the car's ECU.. u r right that the percentage composition of the exhaust gases do matter but thats just something due to the incorrect air fuel mixture ratio, it has nothing to do with backfiring.. Enlighten me if im wrong...

    @Riazsaad
    check if the idling is fine on CNG or not, also, is the pickup of your car fine on petrol or still not good?
    btw, by any chance, did you wash your car engine with water?

    Buddy, majority of this problem is faced in Santros and Balenos.About this specific problem, u can check by running the car in a higher gear while on very slow speed and then try pressing the accelerator, this is a way to check but from what I have found, the fault is with mechanics who do not know how to check a car, since there is always a reason why such happens, sadly in my case santro own ppl didnt know. Not to mention, i myself do not know so much about technicalities of cars, so i would leave your questions answer to someone else

    I have used city, santro, corolla, mehran, khyber, cultus and somehow no matter what, if i had a choice, i would opt for honda.

    @usmangh
    the car idles normally on CNG. the pickup on petrol went back to normal after using the injector cleaner.. Nopes.. i never wash the engine, as it is quite evident from the pics. Do u have any idea about the price of the encircled part in the picture i uploaded in my earlier posts, because that seems to me to be the culprit..

    P.S. the idling on petrol is still very rough. HELP!! HELP!!!

    get your emulator checked for the petrol issue
    about backfire issue, do not change and waste money replacing parts unless u are very sure where the actual fault is, thats what i learned. the sensor u highlighted, that shouldnt be the cause of backfire, the computer will give en error if it has a problem
    check your filter box from below too, maybe the clips there are also broken due to backfire, after all is fine, get a computerized tuneup instead of manual and see

    @Riazsaad,For rough idling problem check the following things,

    1 - Make sure all the air hose pipe connecting to inlet manifold / throttle body properly sealed.

    2 - All the vacuum lines are properly connected and sealed.

    3 - All the electrical harness related to sensors should be connected properly.

    4 - Butterfly of throttle body for wearing.

    5 - Spark plug wires for cracking / loosing.

    6 - Spark plugs for proper gaping.

    7 - Tappets for proper adjustment.
    Never loose hope in life,every step gives u something.

    My Santro Exec had same problem of backfire on CNG when i purchased it. I went to hyundai service center and they tolled to changed the plug wires and plugs.. After that the problem was solved but after one month i started back again, so i went for tunning for that might be causing the problem i thought but it didnt resolved but i noticed one strange thing.

    When i opened the Hood and looked closely below the filter box i heard some tic tic tic tic sound resembling to small spark and when i looked into the end of plug wire end inserted into plug socket, there was spark visible between wire insulation and engine body.

    I looked the other one and it had the same spark but weak strength..I insulated the plug wire ends with black NITTO or Osaka tape and put them back..

    Amazingly the backfire didn't happened again..
