    Default Santro Exe05 Problem Urgent Comments Needed

    Hi there,

    My Santro (120k Mileage) heats up (more than half temp needle keeps on increasing and then I stop the car) and builds more water pressure. I have consulted few mechanics and they are advising for an engine over haul (which I think is a bull-crap).

    Hyundai Township (big-time uneducated thieves), told me to change Rings+Head gasket+engine overhaul and the price was Rs.68k.

    It gets noisy like an accelerated engine noise when gets heat and loses water in radiator (no water leakage at all), eventually becomes quiet upon pouring water, while car is in on state. It seems to me a head gasket problem rather than anything else. I am planning to replace head gasket and get its face leveled. If required I can accept replacement of seals or any weakened water pipes.

    Total cost;

    Labor = 2000
    Head Gasket = 1200
    Leveling of gasket = 200
    Seals = 800
    Some other parts = 1800

    Total they quote me is = Rs.6000

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    i had a similiar problem, head gasket was at fault. But by the time head gasket was changed, the problem had extended to ring, pistons and car started giving white smoke and spitting oil from exhaust. Now i had to overhaul my engine and my car has done 72k km only (bought in december 2004). So my advice is replace head gasket ASAP.

    as many have suggested a head gasket can be a problem. the easiest way to check it is to start the engine and open the radiator cover and check if there are any air bubles coming out in the radiator water. if you see small air bubles in the radiator then head gasket is leaked. get it replaced as soon as possible.
    second thing can be timming belt needs replacement. when timming belt gets old it becomes loose and the timing of engine is out a little. it also causes the engine to overheat a little and the water in radiator get avaporated quickly. get the timming belt checked also
