Can a Santro Manual 2004 model be converted to auto transmission. Is there auto gear available for it in the market.

I know about mehran and other commonly available japanese car conversion, but this santro thing is above me as i dont think so that its auto gear box will be available as its korean based and its parts may not be imported in scrap, thats why i needed expert opinions from Gurus here.

yes it is - you would need a completely new engine wiring harness too as the transmission is sourced from mitsubishi it is electronically controlled. - If you get the complete wiring - its a plug and play situation.

The issue most people face is that their original engine ECUs are different from the ones that the junkers have - hence the wiring harness is different.

What I said is that the engine and transmission used in your Santro are both from Mitsubishi - and require their original TCM (trans control Module) to run.

If you just bolt it and dont wire it up - it will forever remain in 3rd gear and never ever shift. To make it function i.e. shift correctly you need the original wiring harness as in the manual car there is only one ECU - in the auto car there would be two units, an ECU and a TCU on top of it.

The TCU takes various signals from the ECU and is spidered into the wiring harness - SO THAT IS WHY you need a whole wiring harness. If you go look around you will find that the newer plastic case ECUs with 4 plugs wiring is not available readily but the older style, metal case ECU with 3 plugs is plenty (this setup came in the shoe shaped santro). Thats why I said its much easier.

If they offer full wiring up of the transmission its a good deal - BUT MAKE SURE FIRST that you tell them the transmission should shift into all ratios and also convertor lockup.

Fitting the unit is the easy job - getting it to work correctly is another and not so easy job. How do I know - Ive swapped out many Automatic tranny GDI galants to V6 engine/automatic trannys from similar Legnum/Galant scrap units.

And sorting out the wiring is not so much fun - specially if you also want it to be semi-manual (aka tiptronic) - did that in Galants and it was massively cool.
