Default Do I need a complete overhaul? (Santro Exec)

    Hello guys,

I own a Santro Exec 2005. Recently I ran into this problem. The engine gives a sound on hard acceleration. I get most of the work done from Hyundai Sowan Motors Rawalpindi. I asked one of the guys there and he told me that this is a crank sound and it can only be fixed by overhauling.

    Symptoms:

Engine turns heavy even on 10KM/hour and sound starts coming. I won't call it noise because the sound is hardly noticeable.
    No oil decrease issue.
    No smoke issue.
    Timing belt recently changed.

The mechanic said that I should keep the car running. I won't need overhaul in next 1.5 years provided that I don't hard accelerate. BUT that's not the solution. I highly suspect that complete overhaul is necessary in this case.

Is there any way that only crank can be repaired? I fear, that if I keep on running the car in this condition, that would wear pistons, valves, rings and other stuff in the engine.

    Suggestions highly appreciated.

    Thank you

PS: btw they gave me an estimate of at least 65K for complete overhaul.
PPS: Please recommend me a good mechanic in Rwp/Isb who is dedicated and committed to his work.

Consult with atleast 3 mechanics than make final decision.
Also check the Hyundai Santro fan club on Pakwheels forums. read all the pages you will get some names of mechanics & info about other related issues.

    This is only crank issue.
If there is nothing wrong with pistons and head, then only crank can be repaired in 5 to 6 k. However engine is to be taken out of the hood and then crank will be accessible.

Might be the issue is not with crank. check with other mechanics as well. the engine goes heavy both on A/C and without A/C?
If only with A/C then check your A/C. otherwise check from other mechanics.

Crank noise can be easily recognized. Any experienced mechanic can identify it.
Take it to any trust worthy mechanic (not the dealership) and your problem will be rectified.

complete overhaul of Santro takes around 30000.
there is a mechanic Javed near Double road intersection (workshop near pindora) on I J Principal road.
Contact him.he is a honest man and will give you good advice.
usually he takes 5 to 6 thousand for complete overhaul.
