    Default 1st problem in my Santro after 90,000 KMs done.

    Hi,

    I’ve observed the coolant of radiator got leaked somewhere as it was not at its level. There was no leakage as I didn’t see it leaking when the car is switched off or it’s started.

    This morning I’ve noticed that mat of driving side was wet and I can see the coolant all over there. I’ll investigate it in details later after moving the mat and carpet to see from where it’s coming.

    What could be the possible reason? Has anyone been through this issue?

    Visit your mechanic if you know there's a leak but can't find it. A mechanic can detect a slow or small coolant leak by pressurizing the cooling system.

    Cooling system leak - When you're stuck with a leaking radiator and you need an emergency repair, just pour a small can of black pepper into the radiator. It will stop most leaks until you can get the repair. I've had it in mine for over a year and it worked great.

    Sure mate I'll visit Hyundai tomorrow.
    I don't think its radiator leaking issue and even if it is then I won't pour black pepper at least

    Get your cars heating/cooling pipes under dashboard checked for leaks..I had similar problem with my Khyber..the local MECHANICS changed my radiator but to no use..until they found that the problem was with the underdashboard pipes for heating/cooling.

    This happend only when I got its AC cut off in start of winter last year.

    Hi,

    Had a Visit at Hyundai sajjad motors jailroad.

    The issue was same as mentioned few pakwheels fellows (fsx, baleeno).
    Heater hose (something) got leaked. But original part is around 9k and the other one is 2800 rupees. 1500 is labor and other small parts (bolts etc are excluded from this price so if any other part is required would cost me in separate).
    For the time being I didn’t go for it but adopted alternative to close the hosing connection with heater (cost me 150 rupees).
    The leaking problem is fixed now but heater won’t work. (A/C is working fine).

    I would fix this issue by replacing the part after some time.

    That’s the update from my side and thanks for the replies guys.

    Is heater really needed in Lahore?
    I think its wastage of money to spend Rs. 15,000/- on heater. Better you go without it.

    jehanzeb_riaz :

    If it costs Rs.9000 then I reckon its the heater core at fault, it looks like a small radiator itself but its usually located on the passenger side.

    @tyrone_40

    On average its 60+ (home to office and office to home is 50Kms)
    Furthermore outings on weekend and usually i visit ISB every after 2 months is separate ...

    Regards,

    @Xplorer

    Thats right buddy thats why I took the alternative. But some times I need it in ISB and on late night traveling on motor way. As I've a kid so for him I sometimes use heater too.

    @memphis

    You are absolutely right buddy, Its heater core and it looks like a radiator and located at passenger side. I've noticed that the mat of passenger side was also wet but not much and through some cable etc the more coolant was being through on driving side.

    jehanzeb_riaz :

    Its sad to hear that the heater core leaked so early.

    I recommend you get it welded/repaired by someone other than Hyundai it would be much cheaper, by the way the heater core of my corolla '82 leaked only recently and was welded at a cost of Rs.300 only..

    @memphis

    Yes dude thats why I didn't go for it immediately, I knew you pakwheels dudes would definitely give me some good alternatives.

    Many thanks for this suggestion mate. (Y) Sure I'll consider it.

    Furthermore I won't believe them by just saying that this part is leaked unless I'll see it by myself, so may be this weekend I'll go there and ask them to open the dashboard and show me the faulty part. After that I'll see whether a welding is required or some other problem is there.

    Cheers.

    Dear santro users
    I have same kind of problem with heating core twice ruptured in around 1.5 years and happens quite often what ever type i.e. genuine or chinese made core is used. Finally reached on the solution that "Bypass the heater in summer and reconnect in winter". It would cost just 50-200 Rs and peace of mind, just couple of visits to mechanic are needed. In addition proper check you coolant system including radiator cap, coolant level, coolant quality. It would be better if radiator may be cleaned from professional but keep in mind do not let him use acid, tell him to just put some hot water and open the miniature pipes with wire etc.

    Hope this will help and please update or comment on it.
