    Default Self Tuning - Khyber G-10 (Plugs, valve clearance, spark gap etc)

    Salam

    dear members/experts

    I own a khyber 1996. Recently overhauled its engine completely at home by myself except the mechanist part. It has its first oil change at 1100Km yesterday and i am planning to tune it. I have following query for the learned members/experts

    Q.1. recommended spark plugs for khyber g-10 on CNG
    Q.2. Recommended spark plug gap?
    Q.3. Recommended tappet setting Hot/cold?
    Q.4. Running was on petrol with Caltex Havoline formula and now i have switched to CNG with Shell helix HX7 10-40W (synthetic) , is shell HX7 ok?

    What else should i do or check to get max output and efficiency from my g-10?

    ^ Hmmm,
    Yeah you are right,
    I was having this jerking kind of issue and after the changing of plug wires, plugs the problem was still there.
    Finally it got solved by putting a resistance with the igination coil and my mechanic told me that it was the extra current that was responsible for this jerking.
    I dont know that what is the cause of these jerks in your case so cannot say much.
    You should consult your mechanic and lets see what does he says.
    One of the most difficult things in the world is to know how to do something, and to watch without comment, somebody else do it incorrectly.

    its nice to see PW people following good car upkeep - after installing the T-stat you'll notice after about 3 oil changes how clean the oil is - colder engines form heavy sludge with water condensation etc. You will also notice that your oils even after 5000 kms will be good for use.

    As for the hitchki thing - to me it seems as if you are losing ignition power to the ignition coil - as you say it seems that the engine shuts off for a moment - (maybe a bad ignition switch or wiring from the steering column) - or pretty simply your coils resistance has decreased and the ignitor has a hard time switching it off - or the ignitor is feeble and old - checking the ignition coil and putting a resistance on the positive would help in this case

    thanks, I will follow your diagnostic pattern and hope will find something.

    About the igniter , there is a black plastic cover on the ignitor in the distributor but in my case the black cover is gone, can that be the reason.

    good to knw,do let me knw if ther comes a khyber meet..
    about tht hitcki,smijaz bhai y not try alto dry coil n then see.it wud cost not more than 600 for kabli one..
    kisi frnd ke utar k try kro,if it solves prob,then go n buy urself a used one,warna frnd ko wapis kr do n get ur coil back..
    it gotta b electrical issue rather than mechanical..
    carb ganda tou nae???

    n on soft note,khyber aisi gari Q hy jis ko hiccups,sneezes etc lagi he rahti hain..
    log kahty thy strong car hy but ye to bari FEMALE type nazuk car hy..LOL

    you mean that the black disc shaped distributor shroud is missing? - that alone can cause misfires as the spark current can ground to the distributor internals easily (rotor is not that far)

    yes sir thats exactly what I meant and was afraid that it might be important when i lost it while cleaning and oiling the timing advancer bearing.

    So now where to get that peace of plastic

    xulfiqar bhai, plz tell me how much of a difference a new distributor cap would make? the metal stumps on the inside of my current distro cap are okay-ish. no rust, but they seem to have gone whitish or something...car does misfire, seems that one single cylinder is misfiring....

    can make a huge difference if it starts to leak current, dont tell me that you have tried cleaning it and the rotor with sandpaper.

    you can clean the white crud with a thin screwdriver, just be careful not to scratch the plastic, that can cause tracks and leak current - also check the valve clearances on the cylinder thats misfiring

    did you O/H the dissy - that bearing plate inside the dissy is supposed to have a slight drag - the centrifugal advance weights should be lubed up nice and the shaft greased up real good

    the bearing plate inside the distributor was sticking some time at advance position or sometime does not respond to suction.

    therefore i opened it up and washed it with WD40 and greased it. Now its working with the suction and comes back when released.

    I didnt oiled or greased the shaft and the weights, will do as per your instruction

    oops my bad! i really did sand down the rotor as well as those metal stubs in the distro cap daymn *****.......

    so now i should invest in a new cap and rotor? i think kablee hi milay ga rather than new...

    Hello pakwheelers,

    my khyber's gear shifting has become very hard. Yesterday, I was roaming in 2nd gear, with no foot on the padal. & after 10mins, when i tried to shift the gear, it was stuck on second, I pressed the clutch but couldn't free the gear lever from second. After some tries, it got free, i thought clutch cable has jammed up, and i thought i won't be able to engage the gear. But i was able to engage it in all gear without no sound.

    today I changed the gear oil, but still the gear gets stuck, and i don't know the reason.

    Please help.
