    Default Khyber Startup Problem

    AOA WW,

guys, i am having a startup problem with my khyber. some days ago, i went to a long ride to chakwal on my car. there, i came across the problem that my car generator was not charging the battery and ultimately the car engine switched off as the battery drains. the car ran smoothly when i plug the battery after charging it manually by UPS. i consult an auto electrician there and he solved the problem by changing the grip of the cable (at generator end) that connects the generator and battery. The car runs smoothly after that and i came back to ISB.

Today, i got the same problem again and my car engine switched off giving same problem as before i.e. battery drained and generator not charging the battery.

What can be the probable problem and resolution. awaiting your comments and expert opinion.

    Regards,

    Kashif Rafiq

Again check the same grip and wiring of generator but I think you need to Replace or repair the generator.

the battery is just installed about 2 months ago and it is still in warranty. i don't think that the problem can be of that.

I checked that grip and tighten it to the extent i can, but the problem is still there. and by the way how much i have to paid if i go for repair or replacement of this generator by a used one. some body told me that the cost of new generator @ Suzuki is very much high.

Charging light was operating normally when the car was running but now i can't tell because the car is not starting and currently both charging and oil check light becomes ON as i turn on the ignition, which is default behavior.

Tell me about the charging fuse, which one is the charging fuse as there are many switches in the fuse box and i don't know about the charging fuse exactly.

    Thanks for reply.

Ok, i'll get the battery checked as it is already in warranty. but i don't think that the problem is of battery as it is charging normally when i connect it to any external source like UPS or something else.

    Thanks for your valuable response.

get the generator checked, maybe its time to either repair or change the generator.
Almost everyone in Pakistan is doing corruption to the extent they can. Our leaders are doing at the level they can do. So why should we complain?

at last time when the car was started, the oil and battery lights went off with the start-up of the car. i've checked the babu muhalla market yesterday and the cost of used generator varies from 1500 ~ 1800 without replacement. also, i've checked with Suzuki for new generator but they said me to check Waseem Autos in saddar for new generator but the new generator was not available with them. They also recommend me to go to Babu Muhalla or Sultan ka Kho for a used generator

I have checked the wiring diagram and in Khyber there is no separate fuse for charging, the main "IG Coil" fuse (8 no. fuse as shown in picture) supplies +ve 12v to generator when the key is at ON position.
However local mechanics generally alter wiring and install a relay in between so that fuse become practically useless.
Take you generator to electrician, he will connect a battery with it and a 12v bulb. The bulb will be remain ON initially. Then he will tie a rope on the pulley and will rotate it, the bulb must go OFF for a moment. If the bulb remains ON, your generator need to be repaired, otherwise it is ok and the fault lies in wiring.
Getting the generator repaired is not an issue, it has no rocket science in it. Can be easily repaired and will go long.
Most of the time the solders inside it get loose by the action of heat and vibration, re-soldering them will solve the problem.

Thanks for your reply, i'll check the fuse. may b there is some problem with the fuse because as i told that i get the car repaired before, there he replaced the ignition fuse from 20A to 30A. may be that is the problem.

As far concern is generator repair, most of the people says that don't go for generator repair. inside the generator there are only some major problems which are Fuse, Wiring or Ring Problem which can be repaired easily for 400 ~ 800 (verified from market).

Finally, problem rectified and resolved. The problem was with the generator, the cut-out and rectifier were not working. The electrician took 650 for replacement of both and 200 for his labor. Any comments on prices ????
