    Default Performance after Complete Engine Overhaul.

    Hi Everyone!
    I have Suzuki Khyber 1999 Model. It was running smoothly without any problem for the last 08 years but now for the last 4 or 5 months it was blowing and consuming engine oil. I had to add 0.5 litres of Engine Oil after every week to keep the level. The vibrations in the engine were also increased.

    So I took the car to the mechanic and after opening the engine, he said that complete engine overhauling is required as the gap between pistons and cylinder walls will not be covered just by changing the piston rings. Today was the first day and he has given me three days time and an estimate of about 20-23k Rupees for the complete engine overhaul.

    But he was saying that after the overhaul, the pick of your car will be decreased because before overhaul, it was burning engine oil which increased its pick.

    Guys I am a bit confused about this statement. What do you say about that? I mean what is the purpose of spending 25000 Rupees when the car's pick is going to decrease?

    Today I have started completing running of my car. I am running it on Petrol. Covered 50 Km today. The engine seems to be quite smooth and noiseless(although the fan is kept direct till the running will be completed ). But I will be able to tell you the exact condition of engine after completing the running.

    @ahsanzs
    Nice info. But the bore size doesn't change too much so the increase in fuel comsumption is negligible. And I was asking the other expert members to comment on that topic. As these discussion forums are meant for that. But it doesnt mean that I havn't cleared my 9th Chemistry. I have read thermodynamics in my engineering course also.

    The total money I have spent on this complete Engine Overhaul is 20,500 Rs. But in this price the cost for fully servicing the car at service station,CNG,Engine Oil, Oil filter and coolant is also included.
    Service=200 Rs
    CNG=300 Rs
    Engine Oil,Oil filter and coolant=1500 Rs
    So these things Cost 2000 Rs.
    As these thing are the routine things so you can subtract their price from the total overhaul cost.
    20,500 Rs - 2000 Rs=18,500 Rs.

    @speedster: greetings to have ur engine rebuild, pls take care of following:
    - temp gauge is showing actual temperature, and not displaying wrongly
    - cooling system is in perfect condition & thermostat valve is present & working
    - tappets adjustment is not set to very tight.
    - give ur engine few minutes after starting to run on idle before moving.
    - keep a constant (preferably daily) check on engine's oil level, water level.
    - not recommended to use CNG on a new rebuild engine before completing runup.
    - avoid unnecessary accelaration, and constant driving in low gears.
    - until ur running completes avoid going on highways (for very long drives)

    and i found it quite rubbish to max 2 persons in ur car. tell him its a car n made for 4 persons. you should not go for more than 4, but u can easily go for 4 persons.

    @ahsanzs:
    bhai i can not understand that after rebuild 10% cc increases in engine. if we assume that this is true, than the famous suzuki 800 cc engine after 4-5 rebuilds are working on 1200 cc.

    second 20-25k for engine rebuild is not very expensive these days, bcuz it includes labor i.e. 3-5k plus engine oil i.e 1.5-2k and etc , so it is not that expensive if u r going for complete overhaul.
    Prepare for the worst, Hope for the best.

    Hi every one!
    The running was completed some days ago. I went to the mechanic after completing 1200 Km and he did the following:-
    -Tappet adjustment
    -Oil Change
    -Tunning
    -Fan set to automatic
    -Installed the thermostat valve
    -Heater pipes were connected.

    The engine sound is good and the drive is smooth. The acceleration on petrol is very good. Can touch 120 Km/Hr easily and can go further.
    But on CNG it can attain a maximum speed of 110 Km/Hr. And at that speed the accelerator is not pushed to the end,some space is present between the accelerator and the wall. But when you press it further, the car appears to slow down with little jitters.
    Can anybody tell me why is it so?

    first of all make sure on petrol, you are going above 120. if yes than it needs CNG adjustments for high speeds, but i would consider dont go for it, as it will raise ur consumption and 2nd 110 is quite good speed. why do u want to overspeed.

    Also make sure tappets are set at a loose extent, as compared to those set for a petrol only car. it will extend engine life.

    I think the reason of jittering is CNG flow adjustment, at 110 its fulfilling needs but when u floor it, engine compression wants more CNG and that is not coming due to restricted by flow control valve. it is choking a petrol line, and pressing accelerator.
    Prepare for the worst, Hope for the best.

    @afarooqi
    Actually it can go to 110 km/hr but with quite a difficulty. It gains speed very very slowly. And if you try to accelerate it rapidly then same jittering problem.
    I will go to the mechanic tomorrow. Lets see what is his story.

    @afarooqi & @uzzy
    Yes you people are right!
    The car is having problems with CNG settings. Other wise the engine is rebuilt nicely.
    I went to the mechanic, He was in a hurry to go home for Eid. He adjusted the CNG valve and he also placed tape on the air intake to restict excessive air.
    He was saying that install a component from CNG workshop and this problem will be solved. I didn't get the component's name. It was like franchury or somewhat.
    Anywaz after the settings I took my car to the highway and it was doing 120 km/hr on CNG. But after two or three days, I am again facing that problem i.e when you press the accelerator a little more,the car seems to jitter and the speed is reduced but when you release the accelerator, the speed starts increasing but very very slowly.

    Help me experts!

    Bhai again ur cng setting are not upto mark and get it re-done while ur mechanic is not busy or not in hurry. also in the mean time check for air filter it should be clean and get it cleaned by air pressure from any tirewala/service wala after every 15 days.

    again i would like to say that 120 is quite a speed, please drive upto 100 while on highways (provided limit allows u). its better to be safe.

    Default Second Overhaul.

    Last time the engine of my SA-310 was overhauled in 2008. Now it is overhauled again in 2016, after almost 8 years.
    The car was reducing engine oil, though 20W50 was being used. As the seals were also leaking, it was not clear that engine oil was getting reduced by oil leakage or due to oil consumption. The smoke was occasional. So in Oct 2015, I changed all the seals (cam, crank, rear main seal), clutch n pressure plate, clutch bearing, timing belt, timing bearing etc. Gear shifter seal was also replaced as gear oil was getting leaked.
    The leakage for both (engine oil and gear oil) was stopped after that, but the car was still reducing engine oil. I wanted to get the engine overhauled in winter, plus I had to complete my MS thesis before that, therefore I waited till January 2016.

    The work started early Tuesday morning on 19th Jan 2016. I selected weekdays because there are too many customers on weekend and the mechanic is usually in a hurry. Same is the case with machinist.

    When engine work was carried out in Oct 2015, the mechanic was not able to save A/C gas. I didn't get it filled because summer was almost gone. As there was no gas in A/C system, the mechanic suggested to remove engine from front this time.
