Gear oil level is low. Better to change all the oil with a better quality oil instead of topping up

Don't worry dear.............Asad is right but partially. Its might not be due to low level of gear oil. This sound comes out of the 5th gear inside the transmission box which is somewhat sort of detached from the rest of gear box. In winters gear oil gets denser and takes time to heat up and reach up to lubricate the 5th gear which till then rotates dry. I'm sure this sound comes only when u cold start the engine. i'll give u a quick tip. just get a litre of auto transmission oil which is less viscous. mix it with your gear oil n refill your transmission. thinner oil will quickly reach 5th gear. nothing to worry about

Again, another "paidaishee" beemari of Suzuki cars. Its not only Margalla; you can notice the same sound in Cultus and Alto. I had this sound in my Alto even when it was brand new.

i dunno my margalla only started giving this noise this winter, it never had this problem in it's 2 lac plus kilometers of its life. gear oil was recently changed to a thick total oil (zic made the gears too hard), i suspect this might have a connection

strangely when i showed it to mechanic he said its problem in all khyber, cultus and margalla,
but i dont agree with him because the car didnt give noise previously

The gearbox bearing that u r talking of is a sliding clutch bearing which gets in touch with pressure plate and rotates when clutch is released. That might also be causing noise but that has nothing to do with summers or winters. For winters specifically, you have correctly identified the problem being due to thicker gear oil. It takes time for this oil to reach every corner of the gearbox n that's why gears rotate dry for some time especially the double top

found the solution for my car..
overfill an extra bit of gear oil..i dont know but the mechanic opened a nut on top of gear box, may be it was some kind of speed sensor screwed in the gear
    and he poured some oil..
there was no noise after that..
and yes, it only happened in winter

The clutch plate, pressure plate & thrust bearing combination runs DRY in belhousing which connects Gear-box to engine block.

The grinding sound 'MAY' be from thrust bearing when COLD. However changing out-specs transmission oil is real cause of such sounds. Vanishing when oil is WARM. try to TOP-up OEM specified Transmission oil - wait for GURU XULFIQAR for more

Red is bel-housing, Yellow is axel connectivity, Brown is thurst bearing

when the gearbox is low on oil and the input shaft has some float in it the gearbox would be noisy when cold, this noise will also magnify when you drive the car on a long route in 5th gear - it will increase as the car covers kms over kms.

remember that the gearbox is spinning with the engine even in neutral, that is why all manufacturers recommend to start the engine with clutch pressed in.

Drain all old oil and fill with correct recommended gear oil and NOT what the shop keeper is trying to push over to you.

btw if you hear a noise only when the clutch is pressed then its the clutch release bearing aka thrust bearing as mentioned by capsat.
