@ sami_voodoo
hey how have you been , sorry for the uber late reply , I wasn't hoping for anyone to answer this in a proper manner but you have proved that theory wrong. lol
anyways coming back to the topic
good observation on the long con rods than a normal 1.6 being in perfect alignment during the power stroke to reduce the frictional losses
Furthermore take a look at the piston speeds of some engines by Honda
Piston speed in feet per second @ 8,500 rpms:
B16B - 4,317 fps
F20C - 4,685 fps
K20 - 4,797 fps
B18c - 4,864 fps
B18a/b - 4,963 fps
H22 - 5,059 fps
H23 - 5,299 fps
K24 - 5,522 fps
now coming to the answer to the question (Why is B16B so simply outclasses a 4A-GE?)
the fact is that B16B is just a better engine . (period)
why is it a better engine?
the answer is better and basic racing engineering is used rather than fancy valves and ITB's
Honda engineers , took the ultimate challenge in modifying their already popular B16A
the B16B is a phenomenal engine with a displacement of 1.6 liters it can achieve 185ps
the B16B has numerous changes and support from the Amuse and Spoon racing Teams while developing the B16B
some of the changes were as follows
Cylinder Head - Complete port & polish
Exhaust Valve Spring - High-lift, dual-layered spring
Sparkplug - High-heat-type #7 platinum plug
Pistons - High-compression, low-friction, custom pistons
Connecting Rod - High-output, high-durability, lightened, custom conrod
Engine Stiffener - Aluminum die-cast, high-durability, one-piece type
Crankshaft - Full-balancer, 8-weight, high-output, custom crankshaft
Inlet Valves - Lightened inlet valves
Inlet Valve Springs - High-lift, flat-surfaced, dual-layered spring
Camshaft - Wide-angled, high-lift, high-durability camshaft
Intake Manifold - High-RPM type.(short intake runners)
the engine used lightweight racing type parts with the state of the art designed alloys and ,Molybdenum coated low friction, small skirt pistons to reduce friction, the piston dome was also increased to bump up the CR, the head was extensively machined, with P&P and milling the head as well as giving the engine oversize and lightweight valves with a 5 angle valve job.
coming towards the bottom end , the high chrome carbon steel con-rods were lightened , balanced, and stiffened to bear the grunt of the high revs also the most important part the tetra-methyl lead coated crankshaft was fully blueprinted , balanced , machined and micro polished to yield a crankshaft that could only be seen in F1 engines. the block was stiffened alot along with giving it an upgraded oil pump
the B16B is a far superior engine to the 4A-GE in every aspect , the amount of engineering that went into this engine was phenomenal and the results were mid blowing nonetheless
thank you.
