no old accord ever came with CVT, anyway, the old 92 model transmission is full hydraulic and shifts based upon speed governor and throttle cable (you have that) - some newer ones (like your new engine) did come with full electric shift transmissions which have 2 shift solenoids and 1 lockup solenoid. it also uses 2 speed sensors to detect transmission speed.
If your ECU is an elec auto trans one and you dont run it - the ECU will by default remain in limp mode - limited to 4000 rpm, no VTEC, dead acceleration etc. Can you inspect the transmission case itself for the model no. and also check how many wiring plugs are on it.
The mechanic who did the swap in 90% certainty used the old transmission as all F and H series blocks are the same pattern. Hence you can even fit an F20B Accord Si engine on it but dont expect it to work like the monster it is.
