every design has a unique build - materials, design, induction system etc all play a part in noise - e.g. a general rule is that iron block engines are quieter because the iron is pretty dense and quenches sound. aluminium, not so good.
Top Ten: Great Sounding Engines - Car Throttle
Toyota does better job in cabin noise control. I don't think it has anything to do with louder engine.
yes toyota sound insulation is much better than honda. All new honda cars have this problem of excessive road noise. Plus the engines are also noisy as compared to toyota i dont know why.
dont know about corolla but i do hear sound of my civic's engine revving when floored thats why i try to go easy on it
thats what my point is honda engines become angry on revving but toyota stays cool...
My Civic 2011 has better cabin insulation than corolla while corolla had better insulation than city. This is my observation. About engine noise civic and city has less noise than corolla but idsi city was quietest car. Also altis has less noisy engine than gli and city its very quiet

The reason behind Honda engine being louder is VTEC all the engines with VTEC are not loud but aggressive its not just shoor but its aggression to be honest I own both city and corolla I love the sound of VTEC it really pumps u up with its roaring sound.
