I do not agree (With due apology). If it is simple econimics as you have stated then a larger sales volume with lower taxes would result in the same amount of taxes going into Govt kitty. Similarly larger sales volume at lower price will result in same profit as low sales volume at higher prices. As a mtter of fact higher sales volume even at lower prices will trigger a move in economy and industry. More jobs, more turn around of capitals, may be more export lower import, establishment of a broader industrial base, and so on. But these things will lead to a more prosper Pakistan and this what some elements do not want. A more prosper and more educated Pakistan is a threat to world? Yes they think in these terms. They want to keep us in the stone age and make us happy by allowing us to access to low tech industry. Why Suzuki, which is selling vehicles in Pakistan as long as I ca remeber, has not set up an even a single hi tech engineering centre in Pakistan. Same goes to Honda, Toyota etc. Same is true even outside auto industry in all sectors. Except our missile and nuclear program please name a single project / venture we can boast of technological superiority. If Nokia can set up design centres in India and China, why not here. We are also a big market by many standards. Its time we should start thinking how to gear up our technological capabilities. Maybe higher education in science and technology is one answer. Second is to draw foriegn investmnet in technology development and not in manufacturing.
