The point is that even those who call it Islamic banking are making a profit over a loan which is the proper definition of interest. The bankers are just trying to use different words for the same thing to seduce religious customers like jaan and many others i know of.
Anyhow, according to my sources, if your country moves on interest (as does pakistan in terms of loans from other countries) people getting salaries from them i.e. govt. servants get halal money.
In terms of necessary loans, it is permissible to pay interest because it is something without which you suffer A LOT. The implication here is that if you have to pay interest over a NECESSITY, it is permissible. Hence, go ahead, book your car and give me a ride with l'il Siraj as soon as possible.
