please don't use a "band aid",.. instead i suggest you get your engine checked as to why your engine is reducing oil. probably weak ring seals or a damaged/warped head/gaskit.

    No smoke?
That means the rings are ok.
Have you checked the head gasket?
If there is some oil/sludge present on the tappat cover then it can be a blown gasket.
Also sometimes the oil cap,s seal wears out or the oil drainage nut slips thus causing a minor but not so visible oil leakage.
    Please check these factors.

    then check oil-sump seals as-well...

and as stated by daniyal also check head-gaskit, but it would be fine as engine is newly overhauled

Caltex is a good brand, though if you want to switch u can try ZIC Highflow, it is good for new engines! But before switching get a thorough check-up of engine for leakages and gaskits etc

    Agreed!
You can also try Castrol GTX Magnetic.
I,ve been using it for quite long now and I rate it superior than Havoline.

You are already using most thick oil, caltex havoline is 20w-50, if it's not havoline formula.

Should be some other reason... oil cap, drain bolt etc.

You mentioned that it is a newly rebuilt/ overhauled engine and it is reducing oil. My hunch is that the rings have not been installed properly. Same was the case with my Hyundai excel. I had an engine overhaul yet it reduced oil after every 50-60 kms thus making my life a living hell . I went to a different mechanic and after thorough inspection he told me that rings were not installed properly, hence a 2nd overhaul in less than 2 months was performed and since then, have had no problem.

What grade oil are your using. If its been rebuilt, its very possible rings have not seated.
I would get a compression test done.

is .5ltr every 3k alot for this car? seems within tolerance.
