the tank is right under the rear seat, check if its sealed properly from where the gauge sender goes in... also check for any leaks or cracks in fuel lines running underneath the cabin... also check if the filler rubber pipe is intact and the metal one has not rusted away?

a tiny leak or crack or the likes will have a very unnoticeable effect on your fuel consumption...

metal filler pipe is right behind the filler cap and the rubber pipe is attached (with clamps) to the metal filler pipe on one end and the other end goes onto the fuel tank.

u wont feel any reduction in economy cuz petrol isnt leakin ,its kinda evaporating ..so consumption would not go down much ..check what the first reply asked u..n get it checked asap.. its dangerous, let alone health,it can cause fire if let un treated, cuz as u said its smell is growin so might be the area from where its leakin is expanding..get ur tank checked as first step!

its usually when the metal filler or its vent gets corroded, also check the filler cap rubber seal.

when getting refilled dismount ur car and closely observe any leakage below the tank & filling line even minor leakage effects as with spilling petrol on the external surface of rubber filler pipe breakes it fast
