Default Is there demand for Car Magazine for PK Market ???

    Hi guys

Im based in the UK and weve got alot of car magazines here, im really interested in the pakistani car scene adn want to know the following:

    1. Are there any decent car magazines in Pakistan
    2. Do they cater for local market etc

Also please answer the following too

    a. What do you want from a car magazine?
    b. how much should it cost?
    c. what topics should be covered?
    d. How frequent shoul it be?
    etc etc.

The reasonim asking all these questions is that me and a cousin based in khi are thinking about starting a decent and regular car mag that is based just for the growing pk market.

    What do you think?

Giv as many suggestions as possible.

    Thanks

    Hassan

Hmmm as far as i know, there are a couple of Local Auto Magazines available in the market. Which are published monthly and based on 70% advertisment (Sale/Purchase) and 30% on other informative stuff in which plenty of topics regarding wheels are covered. The price being between 30-50 PK Rupees is quite reasonable.

But in my opinion, more local magazines should be available for the people who can't use the internet that often.
Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Have not come across one yet, may be I have not visited a bookshop recently or never had a look at the magazine section, despite being associated to media. I would certainly like to buy and read one and wish ther could be one like "SPIDER" , the Internet mag pulished by Dawn newsapaper publishing company.

    hhl,
A Pakistani car magazine is something the need for which has been felt since far too long. There is no decent car magazine in Pakistan. And I think the time is ripe for launching one.
Now the answers to your queries:

    1. No. Though a few attempts were made. One very good mag was launched, called "The Motor in Pakistan" (www.motorinpakistan.com) almost two years back, but they brought out only two issues. There was another one called "Motor Magazine" (www.motormagazineonline.com), which was a kind of UK-Pak mag, but it was an extremely poor production.

    2. The above answers it.

    a. I want the car magazine to have:
    - reviews and comparisons of cars available in Pakistan.
    - all the latest news related to the local auto industry.
    - interviews of industry executives.
    - happenings in the local auto manufacturers and their future plans.
    - and a little about the global auto scene, both in terms of car launches and corporate developments.

    b. Spider magazine costs Rs. 50, Aurora costs Rs. 50. Having the same quality, the magazine shouldn't cost more than Rs. 50 in order to have enough buyers.

    c. See answer to a. above

    d. Monthly.

I would be very glad to see your plans materialize. By the way, the Pakwheels team was also talking about launching a local auto mag a few months back. No word from them on the topic since then. When mps does tell you something about it, do share it with us.

    Thanks for your comments

the quality of www.motorinpakistan.com seems very good although it hasnt been updated for a long time. Was their print version any good and did they cover what you wanted.

    How many pages wa it?
    What did it cost?
Why did it close, didnt it getenough exposure?

Also have you seen the following website www.automart.com.pk, they claim to have launched and magazine recently for pakistani audience. is it any good?

Also if any of you have any old copies good pakistani magazines that are now out of production then can I please borrow them.

    @kavs

    r u livin in india?

If so what r the prices for these magazines?
how many pages do they have?
Do they cover the indian market comprehensively and specifically or is it just copies of international mags?

    Thanks for the info

    @mps

Is pakwheels.com the only site in the pakistan that cover cars on this scale and level.

Autocar India is the Indian version of Autocar international (print rights held by Autocar International)...

Bike India is also Indian version of Bike international magazine (Print rights held by Bike International)...

Overdrive India is a publication by the publishing house of TATA.....

Business Standard Motoring is also an Indian Publication...

All the above magazines cost within 35-60 Indian Rupees...

All of them cover the Indian Automobile Scenariao comprehensively... a few reports on International Automobiles are covered too...

Auto Magazines have been in publication in India for not less than for 20-25 years as far as I know....

hhl, spider magazine is seen everywhere since it's published by the same group which publishes Dawn newspaper, so you can see why it is seen everywhere.

about your previous question, yes pakwheels.com is the only website at this scale in pakistan.

    @hhl:
Yes, "The Motor in Pakistan" was a nice start. Its print version was equally good. Its layout and page quality was similar to the Aurora magazine (if you have seen it). It had a thick good quality paper and color printing. The size of the paper was about 11" x 19". The reasons why they couldn't sustain their mag are not exactly known. However, in my view it failed because it was too expensive at a price of Rs. 75 for 20 pages after waiting for two long months, as it was bi-monthly.
And yes, they did cover what I expect from a local car mag, albeit to a much lesser extent.

I haven't ever seen the AutoMart magazine that you mentioned, as I live in Islamabad. But after checking the website, I think it's largely a trading pubication.

There are very good car magazines in India, like Kavs mentioned. I did get hold of an issue of Overdrive while I was in UAE. You can check their websites:
    www.bsmotoring.com
    www.overdriveindia.com

    www.indiacar.com (Website only)

In my view, a car mag must not be costlier than Rs. 50 to be successful. And it must be monthly at least and should have 50-100 pages. It should have good quality color pages. You can check Spider and Herald magazines. They have good quality printing and are quite affordable.

We launched it. It was success in terms of subscription. Unfortunately, it was closed because of certain reasons. All the magazines which I received were sold out. I still have the copies of each edition

Sure...a car magazine for those 3 companies we have, some of whom keep the same model for decades...why not?

I am sure there is enough material to fill the magazine, let say detailing that one light, bumper or color scheme they changed for this new year...every month. At least I can guarantee one dedicated section that will never run out of updates...the increase in prices this month.
