Default Used car: sparingly used or excessively driven

a used car with an extraordinary low mileage is better or the one with longer daily runnings? which would you prefer? there has been a few ads on pakwheels recently where a more than 10 year old vehicle has less than 40k kilometers on the odo while owner says most of the times car has been parked, or used as a 4th or 5th car or blah blah.. what would you decide if you're about to buy a used car. the one with a low mileage which has been standing for a while, or a vehicle with constant running having lots of km on the odo?
if tc=p then hc=m where tc is equal to toyota corolla and p is equal to paindu, and hc is equal to honda civic and m is equal to moron

Parts have a life mentioned in distance or time. Usually cars who have been standing for long have never got their parts changed because they have never worn out, but have expired. You see material degradation happens over time.

Had the car been running, the parts would most probably have worn out and replaced many many times.

If you buy a less run car, the first thing you'd see is leaking radiator pipes. Next would be the frayed fuel line which would leak petrol (which is expensive) and can also cause a fire. After that most probably the brakes would start jamming (means when you remove your foot off the pedal the brakes would only partially release). Then engine/gearbox/differential or other fluid retaining seals will fail. After that the mechanisms for operating windows etc. (whether powered or not) will fail. When a car which has usually been standing in shade will see a few days of intermittent sunlight and dark the door/window rubbers would crack.

Since the tyres would have also expired but have a lot of groove left, they are also dangerous.

My strategy to buy used car is in between both the options.

The car used in house as a weekend car and not being a daily driven car.

    Plus points:
    - Less mileage on the odo.
    - been taken care like hell (depend on the owner, if you find that pagal like me, you are lucky enough for the rest of few years)
    - Maintanence / cleanliness up to date.
    - Most of them got good regestration numbers...
