    Default toyota rav 4 suggestions.........

    hello all ,
i am interested in purchasing a rav4. it is red colour model 1997 reg 1999 manual right hand drive. the car has been repaint nicely but is not major . millage is original 1 lakh 6000 and the engine is sealed.... the car has no work and is in top notch condition.
    my question is

    1) the owner is asking 8 lakhs for it.... how much should i offer for such a car?
    2) are the parts available easily in the market ? and are they expensive compared to civic?
    3) is there any major problem with this car? like some fault which is very common?
    4) does this car ride more like a car or a jeep? i know jeep rides are very stiff and hard..... whereas car ride is much smoother
    5) wats the millage on this car?
    6) is it a good car to get?

    thanks for all the inputs......

it is definitely a good car, and worth buying, but considering its a 1997 model i would advise against it. this is the time when the car will prolly start falling apart, and you will need many replacement parts which will be both hard to find and expensive.

From my understanding, a new Fortuner is only 7 lakhs! A new Prado is 9 Lakhs!
Tell the seller to check his market.

This SUV comes with a 3S petrol engine if I am not wrong and it is having an average of 8/11 kmpl. Its parts are available but only in big cities i.e. Kci, lhr and Rwp. U got to have some one abroad to get its parts at reasonable rates. Its price should b arround 4.00 K. u can mail me it pics especially of engine for more guidance. A word of advice is "Don't go for an Auto Trans". I'm posting u a link for more guidance on this car. Hav a Nice Day:

    Default RAV4 reliability and modifications

RAV4 is actually a very easy vehicle to maintain. The off-road capability is superb! Over bumps it seems to absorb the shock quite well and going up and down hills is really easy. The vehicle seems to stick to the ground like a leech even though the ground clearance is very high.

The one small issue I have with the RAV4 is that I have been hoping that Toyota will bring in RAV4s brand new from Japan! It is difficult to find a good reliable model. I am thinking of changing my present RAV4 to a newer model. I looked at other models (CRV, Land Cruiser etc) but none of them is suitable for the RAV4.

Please, Toyota, bring the RAV4 in!

    @Enerlever
the Rav4 is a great machine, if it is running well, is trouble free and you like/want it, i'd suggest you go for it. there are many on the roads in PK but it's not as preffered as many other models of cars only because it came to PK in small numbers (never an official import). many parts are shared with other toyota models (most rav4's are FWD not 4WD) and they are built to last.

good luck an let us know your feedback if you decide to buy it.

fortuners are glorified vigos, and the official price tag of 73+lacks is insane for a vehicle with such pathetically cheap plastics. owning one of those is like advertizing that you have too much money and no grey matter between your ears

(sorry i know you are new to PK but over time you'll find that i'm very big on "value for money" and safety, most local dealers and the govt taxes are only ther eto rip people off nowdays)

No worry, don't say sorry. We all have our point of view and as long as its not personnel, by all means. Debate is healthy why not!

Well like you say and I agreed Fortuners are glorified vigos, but I just like the shape of Fortuners
Maybe I prefer 7 seaters SUV Prado is my other love.

no doubt it's a good looking machine i just feel the price nowdays for a new one doesn't justify the vehicle. hope you are enjoying our little online community, glad to have you on board.

I am presently driving a RAV4. However, I have no intention to sell until I can find a replacement vehicle for it. That is why I am looking around now. My present RAV4 is a 1st generation 2000 model. No problems so far, except for the fact that I am starting to get bored with it. Driving it for a few years now.

The pictures on the internet of newer RAV4s look really appealing. I went to the used car markets but I cannot find anything suitable yet. Why isn't IMC bringing in any RAV4s officially???

For normal maintenance like engine oil and oil filter change, there is no problem. Any repair shop will be able to do the job. I use Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic oil for normal use. For off roading, I normally use semi-synthetic oil to give it a better coating of protection and to absorb the carbon better.

So far, I've changed the engine timing belt, and shock absorbers. I have a parts catalogue and I order the parts online that needs to be changed. For the shock absorbers, I had to change them as they were too soft for off road use. I changed to Kayaba 33 series shocks. They seem to soak up the bumps better. For all parts, I normally go to my usual mechanic to have them serviced.

Nothing serious so far about the RAV4. Just thinking of installing a snorkel so that the vehicle is able to ford rivers.
